Yesterday, we launched a new update of MeshCentral.com, MeshCentral Connector and the Mesh Agent that now includes support for remote file browsing. This new feature allows administrators to log into MeshCentral and remotely browse files in any "meshed" remote system directly from the web page. To do this, we built a full web based file explorer interface and tested it on major browsers. The new feature uses the same communication system that remote terminal and remote KVM use and allows outside-in access inside your home or office network.
We are still testing this feature. Obviously, we will be adding remote file management support (upload/download/rename/delete). We will also look at adding this feature on the mobile web site. In general, I think being able to remotely access the file system is pretty important and complements the command prompt and remote desktop features pretty well. Remote desktop and command prompt are not well suited for the mobile web site, but remote file access should work great. Speaking of remote file access, I think people using Android phones should have no problem uploading and downloading, but I am not sure what if going to happen on iPhones/iPad/iPods where, in general, the file system is mostly hidden. By the way, this new browsing feature also works with both Linux & Windows mesh agents.
Below is a screen shot of the new feature. I think at this point, people will be impermanently waiting for the rest of the file management features. Batch file selection is built, but you can't do anything with it yet.
