Dont seem to be able to find a link to download a trial version of the C++ compiler version 11.
Any pointers?

You should get first trial license for Intel® C++ Composer XE 2013 for Linux or Windows. The goto https://registrationcenter.intel.com/RegCenter/Download.aspx?productid=1635&sn=, look for "Version" dropdown list, the choose 11.1 and download the package.
