Simian Squared Go Perceptual: Week 2 Ultimate Coder Challenge

Good morning and thanks for popping in to our cozy little corner of the blogosphere, it's week two of the Ultimate Coder: Going Perceptual Challenge and I'm here to give you the low-down on what we've been up to!

I've just made a warm pot of tea and have managed to find a single perfectly formed biscuit in the tin (Rob's brutish foraging has left most of them in pieces, what a crime!) but I've got what I need to get comfortable and reveal all…

Windows* 8 Store App - Gradebook Sample App

Abstract

The gradebook sample application showcases how to use Portable Class Libraries to demonstrate sharing logic across application platform targets including Windows Desktop and the Windows Store. The app then follows the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern to bind to the data. We use this approach to create classes and objects that can be reused in various client applications.

  • Windows* 8 Tutorial: Writing a Multithreaded Application for the Windows Store* using Intel® Threading Building Blocks.

It is known that the Windows Store apps API is missing some commonly used thread functions, such as function CreateThread() and those that work with TLS keys. This is yet another great opportunity to move your application development from thread-based parallelism to task-based parallelism. This post shows step-by-step instructions for writing an  example that uses parallelism and that can pass validation by the Windows App Certification Kit (WACK). This example can be expanded upon to support clients for online games and more.

FINALLY! Wireless HDMI to TV with Intel WiDi on Windows 8 Ultrabooks

I've been using my 3rd generation Intel core powered Ultrabook and WIndows 8 for a few months and it's amazing, however one cool feature has been lacking; WiDi.   WiDi is a display technology that sends HDMI signal to an external display (like a TV) over WiFi. I had tried getting it going in November  but with no success, as Windows 8 was so new.
