Introduction

Intel® Setup and Configuration Service (Intel® SCS) provides the developer or ISV with the tools to set up and configure Intel® Active Management Technology devices. . The service package consists of a configuration engine and installer in source and binary form, plus a reference graphical user interface that the ISV may integrate into their own software.

Plus all the features you have come to love:

Host Based Configuration (Client Control Mode)
  • This configuration mode is relevant only for AMT systems that support Host Based Configuration
  • Users can configure in CCM and later upgrade to ACM without unconfiguring in the process
Configuration of systems using a remote Service
  • Digest Passwords can be randomized and still retrieved later - without using a database - using the Master Password
Unified Flow - Users can use the same flow to configure both Host Based supporting systems and those that don't support Host Based configuration

Configuration options include dedicated IP and FQDN settings, as well as supporting complex environments (incl. disjointed namespace).

Intel® SCS version 7.1 supports most features included in versions 7.0 and 6.x, although implementation of some features has been changed or enhanced.

The following sections describe the main changes and new feature in the Intel® SCS Source Kit. For more detailed information, see the Intel® Setup and Configuration Services Release Notes.

System Discovery Utility

This is only a standalone utility for developers interested in discovering AMT capable clients in their environment. System Discovery is a new feature included in version 7.0 of the Intel® Setup and Configuration Service. This standalone System Discovery utility does exactly the same as the "SystemDiscovery" command included in the Configurator component of Intel® SCS.

System Discovery allows you to obtain data about Intel® Active Management Technology from systems in your network. This data can help organizations to decide how to configure and use Intel AMT.

Intel® AMT Configuration Utility
(standalone)

This is only a standalone utility for developers interested in configuring AMT capable clients in their environment with the USB key configuration method. For AMT versions 6.x and above, you may only configure with user consent. For IT admin control mode, please refer to the Intel® SCS source kit (below).

The source kit contains:

  • Intel® AMT Configuration Utility (ACU) - previously known as the Activator, this CLI-based utility allows configuring systems in either Client Control Mode or Admin Control Mode.
  • Remote Configuration Service (RCS) - The service component for configuring systems versions AMT 2.1 - 7.0 in Admin Control Mode.
  • GUI Wizard - Defines profiles and provides a graphical interface for configuring a local system.
  • System Discovery Utility - Obtains data for AMT capable systems in the environment.
  • Migration Utility - Supports profile and credential migrations from SCS 5.x to 7.0.
