Thank you for your interest in the Manageability Developer Tool Kit. The Manageability Developer Tool Kit is now available for download.
Recent Changes in v. 0.6.09037.2
* Manageability Commander Tool
- Addresses issues when connecting to Intel(R) AMT systems using WS-MAN over TLS connections.
- Addresses issues with CIRA connections using TLS.
* Published updated User Guide v. 1.5
* Integrated latest Intel(R) AMT SDK release: 5.0.1.4. The manageability tools now use the latest EOI (SOAP) and WS-MAN interface definitions.
* More minor cosmetic updates.
Known Issues
* IDE Redirection of some floppy drives or disk images on Intel(R) AMT 5.x systems may not correctly display text in the remote terminal window from the Manageability Commander Tool or in the Manageability Terminal Tool.
* When using Serial Over LAN (SOL) in the Manageability Terminal Tool (or via the Manageability Commander Tool), the function keys may not be recognized by the Intel(R) AMT system. To resolve this issue, change the Special Key Translation mode from the 'Terminal' menu to another option.
* The Manageability Terminal Tool may display erroneous characters during a remoted reboot of an Intel(R) AMT system. This should only affect how the remoted screen is displayed and should not have any effect on the functionality of the Serial Over LAN (SOL) session.
* A network connection to the Internet is needed in order to verify the author (digital signature) of the applications and the installer. Without a full Internet connection, the installer and applications can take a few minutes to start, which may prevent the Manageability Outpost Service Tool from correctly starting as a Windows service.
- A workaround for this is to add the following lines to the LMHOSTS file:
127.0.0.1 intel.com
127.0.0.1 geotrust.com

The Manageability Developer Tool Kit Source Code package contains the entire source code to the Manageability Developer Tool Kit. A large set of C# classes useful for using many of the features of Intel® AMT. The set of classes in the "Manageability Stack" project wraps most of the web services calls adding conversion, caching other services. This project also includes C# wrappers around the redirection and 3PDS libraries. Separate projects include source code to Commander, Outpost, Director, Monitor and more.
Manageability Developer Tool Kit is a set of tools to help designers, developers and testers understand the benefits of Intel® AMT and assist in the development and testing of Intel AMT applications. The kit runs on Microsoft® Windows .NET 2.0 environment and offers a set of tools to quickly make use of all of the features of Intel AMT through the use of a simple developer oriented user interfaces. Included in the kit is a sample, developer oriented console (Manageability Commander Tool) and agent (Manageability Outpost Tool) along with a set of tutorial videos to help understand how the kit works and how it can be best used to assist in the development of new applications. The kit is an excellent complement to the Intel® AMT Software Development Kit (Intel® AMT SDK) to maximize developer productivity.
Windows* based utilities included in the kit:
|
Utility Name |
Description / Use |
|
Manageability Commander Tool |
Sample management console that enables users to interact with all Intel® AMT functionality including remote connection, power control, agent presence management, watchdogs, Serial-over-LAN (SOL), Remote boot / IDE-Redirect (IDE-R), HW Inventory, Access to the 3rd-party-data-store and many more. Some functions require an Intel® AMT client agent to be installed on the client under management. The DTK’s Manageability Outpost Tool agent is included in both Windows* executable & Windows* service formats. The Manageability Director Tool is used to help remotely provision Intel® AMT clients prior to using a management console. |
|
Manageability Outpost Tool |
Sample client agent that provides local link from a client’s Intel® AMT firmware to the same client’s operating system. This “remote agent” allows the management console to perform operating system level functions through the Serial-over-LAN (SOL) link in Intel® AMT – even when the windows network driver is disabled allowing for file / system repair, remote diagnostics via process and device manager views, watchdogs, and many more. This tool is a Windows executable allowing for real-time interaction with the agent – great for testing. |
|
Manageability Outpost Service Control Panel Tool |
Sample client agent that provides local link from a client’s Intel® AMT firmware to the same client’s operating system. This “remote agent” allows the management console to perform operating system level functions through the Serial-over-LAN (SOL) link in Intel® AMT – even when the windows network driver is disabled allowing for file / system repair, remote diagnostics via process and device manager views, watchdogs, and many more. This tool is a Windows service allowing for unattended system access – the real-world way such an agent would need to work. |
|
Manageability Director Tool |
Sample remote Intel® AMT provisioning utility that provides access to setup of One-Touch (OTC) and Zero-touch configuration models for provisioning Intel® AMT client computers. This utility allows users to configure security certificates used in provisioning and management as well as setting profiles for clients. |
|
Manageability Network Defense Tool |
A simplified management console utility that takes advantage of only the network defense features available with Intel® AMT. This tool has a slightly different user interface than the Manageability Commander Tool and some nice graphical indicators for events. |
|
Manageability Net Status Tool |
A nice graphical tool that simply pings an IP address and displays the connection is active. Shows ping response to a high level of granularity (much finer than the ping in a Windows command window). Useful when setting up filters in Manageability Commander & Manageability Defense Tools. |
|
Manageability Net Traffic Tool |
A nice graphical tool that displays pings it sends to an IP address and displays the pings it is receiving. Shows ping response to a high level of granularity (much finer than the ping in a Windows command window). Useful when setting up filters in Manageability Commander & Manageability Defense Tools as well as flooding a network if that’s desired. |
|
Manageability Terminal Tool |
Sample terminal emulator that is used to interact with the remote client’s SOL |
|
Manageability Flash Drive Tool |
This utility allows for reading and formatting flash thumb drives used in remote configuration (see Director description). |
|
Manageability Network Connection Reflection Tool |
Allows for limited management console functionality from the local Intel® AMT client by running a “reflector” program on a second computer that redirects packets sent from the client’s OS level application back to the client’s Intel® AMT sub-system. |
|
Manageability Monitor Tool |
Monitors Intel® AMT client power state |

I don't know if you noticed, but Intel has pulled virtually ALL of their information and downloads pertaining to AMT. All you can find right now is the marketing information that tells you what you can use it for. But they have removed all of the information pertaining to specific CPUs and Mobo's that support the feature. There are no directions for use, no compatability matrixes, and a whole bunch of broken links on their Web site that were working just fine last week. It looks like all of the rats are jumping off of the proverbial ship. (And we all know what that usually means.) |

what is the hold up? i need this DTK. we just ordered a bunch of new machines and i need this download TODAY. maybe i need to send back all these intel iamt machines. what's the bloody use without software to manage them. can you please get your act together and just POST THE OLD TOOLS? what's the big deal? |

You may probably have already noticed that the Intel AMT Developer Tool Kit (DTK) is marked not available. I wanted all of you to know that this is due to some technical and some non-technical issues that we are working out Internally. We will make the download available to you as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for the interruption and the whole team is working hard to make this product available for download on the community. I will update this post as soon as I hear more details. The last update I have from the development team is that they plan to post it by end of next week (July 18th). I will update you if this changes. Thanks and appreciate your patience. |
| July 8, 2008 9:29 AM PDT
Ajay Mungara |
I also wanted you to know that all the other Intel AMT downloads are available from the community. And, we are not jumping from this ship anytime soon. We have some issues that the team is working through with this particular download only. |

I guess its time to return my AMT system boards as it's unclear if Intel will be supporting this in the future. I'll have to recommend that my customer base avoid iAMT systems as well: not worth the added expense if you can't use the feature because the tools aren't published. |
| July 17, 2008 10:43 AM PDT
Ajay Mungara |
Eric & all, I am really sorry that not having this software available is causing a lot of pain. I have an update from the team that they are working on the last few pieces to make this software available on the site. They are telling me that they won't be able to release it this week, but they will give me an update as soon as possible. I am keep you posted. Thanks and appreciate your patience. |
| July 18, 2008 3:46 AM PDT

Come on people at Intel: It's time to release this stuff now. Weeks of appeasing our customers isn't that easy like your words of patience.... WE NEED THIS STUFF TO DO OUR WORK. |
| July 18, 2008 8:28 AM PDT
Kevin |
This is getting very frustrating. I got 30 Dell Optiplex 755s with Intel AMT technology that I can't use because of the hold ups. Come on guys. |
| July 20, 2008 1:11 PM PDT
Eric |
Ajay, I accept your statement(s) that the AMT team is working on the update and intends to release soon with hope. I hope this means that Intel isn't abandoning the AMT effort and that eventually we/'ll get a working kit. I'm guessing that the reason you won't let us have the old version isn't an oversight as much as a legal/licensing issue. It ain't like Intel's afraid of releasing slightly buggy stuff. If I'm wrong, can we please have the old version? |
| July 20, 2008 1:13 PM PDT
Eric |
Kevin, With out a FIRM COMMITMENT from Intel about exactly when the tools are back up, I think the SAFEST course of action is to return the Dell boxes. Let Dell know why. Your other option is to get AMT enabled management tools from a third party software vendor. |
| July 20, 2008 5:10 PM PDT
Phil K |
Another deadline gone and pasted. We have been waiting for the toolkit for weeks now and I'll be talking to my Dell rep to see what they can do to let Intel know of our concern. We buy hundreds of Dells a year and started upgrading to the VPro processors for this tool basically. Our sites are not interconnected and many only have 4-5 desktops. So deploying a non-domain controller extra server with Altris or Dell Client Manager is not an option at each site! Only other option I have found is this DTK however seems Intel is just keeping it under wraps for whatever reason :( |
| July 21, 2008 10:27 AM PDT
dayglojesus |
I have just spoken to our Dell rep (we are an educational inst. that also purchases hundreds of Dells per year) and he is pushing Altiris as a solution (probably the real reason nobody can get their hands on this *free* software). Collusion? No, they call it partnership. In any case, I have assured him that we will not be purchasing any AMT or vPro units. The ones that were on their way, are being sent back. Money saved. Thanks, Intel. Thanks, for continuing to prove why the OSS model is vastly superior to closed, proprietary, old-fashioned models like your own. I think I know why this is taking so long, Intels lawyers are actually the ones writing the code. What an innovative way to cut out the middleman. |

All, I apologize, I wish we knew upfront about the process and the undertaking. We are learning as we go here and I'm giving you the information as soon I get from the development team. I have escalated the issue to increase the priority. Good news is that Ylian is back and he is working hard to make the software available as soon as possible. http://softwareblogs.intel.com/2008/07/16/back-from-vacation-amp-dtk-status/ I will keep you posted. Also, there was a problem with the comments on this article, and I will explain all of it in a blog post. :( |
| July 24, 2008 8:24 AM PDT
Ajay Mungara |
Thank you for all your comments. Using your comments I have escalated the issue pretty high-up. Finally it looks like people are paying some attention that this tool is really important and deserves some attention. DTK really started as a skunk works project to help developers develop applications quickly. Only now it is getting all the attention thanks to the interest shown by all of you. Unfortunately, with higher visibility comes higher scrutiny in a corporate world and the reason the software is currently not available. But, I really hope to have this tool up on the site as soon as possible. |

How about giving us the old version of the toolkit. I bought 40 vPro machines weeks ago based on the prospect of getting this toolkit. I figured the update would be released in a day or two. Could you put me on a notification list of the release so I don't have to keep checking the web site or just give me an estimated date of release. Thanks |
| August 6, 2008 8:26 AM PDT
Volodymyr |
can you give me any version of the program, to begin testing, in our company 800 machines from vpro. |
| August 6, 2008 9:28 AM PDT
Kevin |
This has gone on long enough. When will this be resolved? |
| August 6, 2008 2:27 PM PDT
Ajay Mungara |
Hey guys .. thanks for all your comments. The latest update I have is that the team is waiting for one FINAL approval from the trademarks & branding team and once that happens we should have the tool up on the site. Well, it has definitely been a long process and I really appreciate your continued patience and support. |
| August 6, 2008 2:28 PM PDT

Since the first release of Intel AMT, we are introduced and demonstrated how fine remote mangagement is working with this wonderful software. But the software is unavailable for us. I have been on two Intel Partner events, where AMT was demonstrated. Nice to see, but not to use ! What great politics ! Realy customer friendly. |
| August 9, 2008 6:32 PM PDT
Eric |
Send you vPRO machines back to Dell and tell them why you are doing it. Ajay's doing all he can, but managment apparently needs to hear it from Dell. |
| August 12, 2008 2:08 PM PDT
Daniel Wood |
I too am waiting for this tool to become available so I can make a recomendation on the future of VPro in my company. We have 755's with the technology currently and want to see if this lives up to Intel's demonstration. Unfortunately I don't have a way to test this. Soon we will be making purchase decisions for next year and right now I have no reason to recommend VPro other than Intel's promises. |
| August 17, 2008 12:16 PM PDT
Dave |
My comment is that why isn't this issue receiving more attention? Intel has sold and marketed a product that at this point is completely useless. This is a complete sham. |
| August 17, 2008 8:30 PM PDT
Ajay Mungara |
I was just told that the last step of the process is now complete. Ylian is making the recommended changes and he will be giving me the final version for me to publish. I am really hoping the tool will be available very very soon. Keeping my fingers crossed. |

Thank you Intel, for making the DTK available again. We decided to deploy motherboards with the Q35 chipsets (instead of G33) at a much higher cost, simply because of the DTK. So Ajay, we are keeping our fingers crossed too. |

Thanks Jack. With one little URL you've been much more helpful than Intel. Ajay Mungara and Ylian, This process has been unacceptable. We expect better from Intel. Your hardware rocks. Your software support pretty much sucks. Get it fixed. Thanks for your work pushing this up the chain of command. Make sure they understand this is driving sales and making us laugh at the "No Excuses Vendor of Choice" Intel Value. |
| August 26, 2008 1:44 PM PDT
jack |
Intel's position is that anyone who is interested in manageable systems will be using an 'enterprise' management suite. like LANdesk Tivoli, Open View, etc. There is no direct-to-consumer strategy. They are completely missing the fact that there are lots of cases where people have 1-6 pc's in remote locations and want to use their vPro features without investing thousands in management software. That's the niche for DTK. Since they don't take that segment seriously, they have not given AMT the attention it needs. Dear Intel, I AM WILLING TO PAY PREMIUM PRICING FOR PCs CONTAINING VPRO. PLEASE PROVIDE THE SOFTWARE TO ALLOW ME TO JUSTIFY GIVING YOU LOTS OF MONEY. THANK YOU. |
| August 26, 2008 4:28 PM PDT
Matt |
Jack, I don't suppose you have the source code for the DTK that you could post for all of us to download?? And for the record Intel can add me to the list of VARs/Resellers/SysAdmins waiting to push their product if the would just hurry up and let me test the software. |

If you know how to use the wayback machine and some URL common sense, even now you can still find v.51. I haven't been able to find .52, but .51 seems to work fairly well. Thanks for all the work by those at Intel. I look forward to seeing the next release. |
