How to activate or install a product on a second system not connected to the internet

If you have a single user license that you activated on one system and you want to do the same on a second system not connected to the internet, you can do that by using remote activation or making the license file available on the second system. We do not track (associate) a system with an installation, so a product with a Single User license can be installed anywhere. Single-user license allows the license owner to install the product on multiple systems. However, only ONE copy of the software may be in use at any one time. Please see End User License Agreement for your reference.

For an Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2011 suite a license seat represents only one allowed usage for all components.
It means that if all the licenses are consumed by one component users (e.g., VTune™ Amplifier XE),
then other components can't be used (e.g., Composer XE).
For example, one 5 seats Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2011 floating license allow only 5 uses of any component, total.
The same behavior is for borrowing feature - the entire suite is borrowed as a whole, not just a one component.

Please also find this article for more details about license checkout and check in.
http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/when-is-a-floating-license-seat-checked-out-and-checked-in/

FLEXlm License Manager 2.0 may fail when LSB 3 is not met

With the new Intel® License Manger for FLEXlm* version 2.0 for Linux* (released January 2012) you may encounter problems due to the lack of Linux Standard Base (LSB) compliance on your system. The Intel License Manager requires LSB compliance version 3 or higher.

More info about LSB support can be found here.

The problems seen are the following:

1) IA32 Systems

Starting the license manager lmgrd issues the error:

 -bash: ./lmgrd: /lib/ld-lsb.so.3: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

Solution: Add LSB support to your operating system. As a quick workaround you may create the LSB linker/loader shared library manually as a symblic link to the Linux dynamic linker/loader shared library, for example (requires (sudo) root rights):

 # ln -s /lib/ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.3

2) Intel64® Systems

The product installer Intel_INSTALL issues an error:

 flexlm$ ./Install_INTEL
*** Error: installed software will not run; package might be for the wrong platform, or corrupted

There may be other reasons causing that error, but one of them may missing LSB support on your system.

Solution: Check your system whether LSB is installed by running
 $ lsb_release
on any shell. If it returns info about LSB packages (core-3*, graphics-3*, desktop-3*, cxx-3* etc.), your system may be LSB 3 compliant. Addationally you could check whether the lsb linker/loader shared library is present on your system, for example:
 $ ls -al /lib64/ | grep linux
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Oct 17 11:07 ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 -> ld-2.5.so

If the LSB linker/loader shared library ls-lsb-x86-64.so.3 is not present, add LSB support to your operating system. As a quick workaround you may create the LSB linker/loader library manually as a symblic link to the Linux dynamic linker/loader library, for example (requires (sudo) root rights):

 # ln -s /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.3

Long license checkout delay for 12.x Compilers

Problem:
A distributed server configuration with a central license manager connected to several remote clients over an Internet connection may cause significant delays in the check out time of a client license when starting a 12.x version based Intel Compiler.

What to do?
First of all review this article which may give more information about getting better license check-out performance:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/can-i-set-both-lm_license_file-and-intel_license_file-environment-variables/ .

If this doesn't help or to investigate further please file an Intel Premier Support issue and provide the log output from a slow client-server connection. The log is being created as follows:

1) On Windows*, for example:
Open an Intel compiler command prompt:
Start > All Programs > Intel Parallel Studio XE 2011 > Command Prompt >
Set the environment variable:
> SET INTEL_LMD_DEBUG="C:\temp\LicenseCheckout.log"
Invoke the compiler (no actual compiliation is required):
> icl
and submit the log file.

2) On Linux*, for example:
On a shell source (if not yet done) the Intel Compiler:
$ source /opt/intel/bin/compilervars.sh ia32|intel64
Set the environment variable, for example:
$ export INTEL_LMD_DEBUG=/tmp/LicneseCheckout.log
Invoke the compiler (no actual compilation is required), for example:
$ icc -V
and submit the log file.

This may give Intel Support more information what could be improved to reduce the checkout time.

Unable to Download Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives (IPP) Cryptography library

Symptom: Unable to download Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives (IPP) Cryptography library from Intel Registration Center (IRC).

Cause: Not having a strong Password may lead to IPP Cryptography library download Problems.

Solution: Users password should be strong enough for the role required to access the download.

Password Guildelines for Strong Password:

In order to protect your security, Intel has certain rules for choosing passwords. Please read the following rules so that you will know how to choose a good password:
(The following rules apply to all passwords)

• The password must be at least eight characters long, and can contain letters, numerals, and punctuation.
• It cannot contain spaces.
• It must contain at least one alpha character [a-z; A-Z].
• It cannot contain your login ID.
• The first eight characters cannot be the same as your previous password.
• Passwords are treated as case sensitive.

Examples of strong passwords:
(The following is for example purposes only. Do not use any of these examples as your actual password.)
• Use a name, modified slightly, like "Bob*1Smith" or "Bobby$123"
• Use a phrase you can remember, like "hello world" modified to "hello1@World2"
• "ttL*hi?wur5" (contains lower case letters, capital case letters, special characters, and numbers)

Please refer to this website for more Information on IPP Cryptography library.

Can I set both LM_LICENSE_FILE and INTEL_LICENSE_FILE Environment Variables?

If a User encounters approx 30 seconds delay in each invocation of the Product (for example Intel® Composer XE)
it means that product is taking time to fetch License file.
Check if the License is residing in the Local machine or in the remote server.
If the License is in the Local machine, just setting the INTEL_LICENSE_FILE Environment Variable is good enough.
If the License is located in remote server on the network, then go ahead and set the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable.
But, if the License file is located in the local machine and still you set both the License variables,product keeps on searching for license file on the remote server, even though it finds file in local machine.There is no mechanism to say which License variable will be fetched first.
It is inherent in FlexNet Licensing to check ALL locations before returning (even if a valid license is found in the first location), so the mere fact of specifying many locations or keeping a large number of license files will slow down license checkouts.
