Problem Symptom:

When attempting to run the Intel® GPA applications (GPA Frame Analyzer, GPA System Analyzer, or GPA Frame Capture), you receive a "cannot connect to server" error message (or a similar error message).

Problem Solution:

Be sure to always start the GPA Remote Server application before running any of the other GPA applications, as the GPA Remote Server is used to communicate between the GPA client application and your game (or graphics application). Once you start the GPA Remote Server, note the IP address of the GPA Remote Server, as you will need to enter this IP address when you start Frame Analyzer, System Analyzer, or Frame Capture. When running in single-system mode, using an IP address of 127.0.0.1 will work as well.

Bottom Line: You must first run the GPA Remote Server application before other GPA applications, independent of whether you are running in a single-system or dual-system configuration.

Solution Details:

The GPA applications require a separate communications program (GPA Remote Server) for sending commands and data between the GPA application and your game. Even when GPA is running in a single-system mode (that is, the GPA application and the game are running on the same physical system), the GPA Remote Server is still required, and must be running before starting the other GPA applications.

Therefore, the sequence of events you should use is as follows: start the GPA Remote Server on your target system, then start the GPA application on the client system (using the IP address displayed by the GPA Remote Server to connect the two processes). The GPA application will then start your game, and use the GPA Remote Server as the communications method between these various processes (including the graphics display driver).

FYI, the GPA Remote Server uses port 27016 as the communications socket. This may be useful if you have a firewall on your system, as you'll need to be sure to configure this port as "open" (and therefore don't block access to this port).

[By the way, just think of the "GPA Remote Server" as the "GPA Communications Server", as the "Remote" part of the application would imply that it's only needed when you run GPA in a two-system mode.]
