There is a bug preventing the normal start process of the license server on Windows Vista* or Windows Server* 2008. Follow these steps for the work-around procedure:
- Download the appropriate Intel(R) License Server for Windows*. The 32-bit license server works for both 32-bit and Intel(R) 64 architectures. (available from the Intel(R) Registration Center)
- Make sure you have your floating license and copy it into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\FLEXlm directory. The equivilant directory on a 32 bit system is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\FLEXlm. If the directory doesn't exist, create it.
- Copy the license server you downloaded into the directory specified in step 2.
- Install the license server by running the setup program. You will get a message saying that the license server could not start. This just means that the license server "service" could not start. This is a problem that will be fixed in a subsequent version of the license server.
- Open a command window.
- Change directories to the one specified in step 2.
- From the command window, run this command: lmgrd.intel -c <license file name>.
- If you want to create a log file, you may use the command lmgrd.intel -c <license file name> -l <log file name>, but just be sure you have write permissions to the directory where you are creating the log file. You will get an error message "create process of lmgrd.intel -c <license file name> -l <log file name> failed, error 2", but the license server should have started. You can verify this by using the lmutil lmstat command.
You should see the license server start in the command window. Leave the command window open and it will serve licenses as long as it is open.
