Global economic issues have many of us thinking hard about the future and the impact we can have in shaping a brighter tomorrow. More than ever, preparing our students for a challenging and competitive environment is top priority for educators. If you haven’t taken advantage of the resources that are yours, as a member of the Intel Academic Community, I urge you to look at the updated courseware offerings today and take that next step to prepare for the latest technological advances. If you are already teaching a Multi-Core curriculum, let us know how it’s going and share your insights with the community.

-- Webinar: A Curriculum for Parallelism: Practical Steps for Industry and Academia- November 20, 2008 9:00 AM PST- Professors Peck and Lathrop lead a discussion with Industry and Academic experts from the show floor of Supercomputing 08 on the topic of supporting many cores within the classroom and the enterprise. This webinar will introduce a unique cross-industry and academia working group to help define, build and promote an undergraduate curriculum for computer science and engineering with parallelism at its core. -- Is the Free Lunch Really Over? Scalability in Manycore Systems- For the multi-core, shared-memory computing platforms, applications are typically rendered in parallel. The key difficulty is the race condition, where threads access data in an unanticipated sequence, with unintended results. -- Supercomputing 08- Intel Academic Community will be sponsoring a number of events at Supercomputing 08 in Austin, Texas. If you will be attending be sure to stop by the Intel booth and talk to Zander Sprague, the Americas Geography Training Manager. -- High Performance Computing Symposium - November 25, Moscow, Russia. The 3rd High Performance Computing Symposium in Moscow will bring together industry, research, and educational representatives who use intensively parallel technologies for solving practical tasks. Intel will demonstrate achievements in HPC technologies, solid-state memory, and graphics, presenting performance analysis results for the modern architectures. In addition, the new Russian Academic Community website will be launched at this event. Visit the site for more information about the symposium (held in Russian) or to get involved.
-- Informatics Education III Conference- December 4-5, Venice, Italy. Join us in this at this third forum, promoted by ACM, for Informatics academics to discuss the latest developments in the teaching and learning of Informatics in Europe. Meet us and get your questions at the Intel booth. Also, Dr. Mark Harris, Higher Education Europe Director, Intel, will be speaking on The Challenge of Innovation Driven Curricula Change. -- College Multi-Core Curriculum Forum- Visit the Chinese Academic Community to learn more about the College Multi-core Curriculum Forum that took place in Hangzhou, China on October 23. Organized by National Teaching Steering Committee in the Computer Science Ministry of Education and Intel was a great success. Scott Apeland, Director, Developer Network Organization, Intel, spoke on Multi-Core Talent Training through Academy-Industry Cooperation.
-- Asia Academic Forum, Taiwan- The next best thing to attending in person… Get the presentations from the Parallel Programming sessions from the Academic Community website.

Many of our community members have taken impressive strides in teaching this complex but necessary subject.
