Problem Description : 

Both the Intel Fortran and C++ compilers for Mac OS and Linux quietly ignore the invalid option -i and pass it to the linker.

The effect is harmless on Mac OS because the linker (ld) does not support the -i option.

For example:

$ ifort -V -i sample.f90

ld: unknown option: -i

The effect is not harmless on Linux where both compiler driver's (icc, ifort) quietly passing the option to the linker (ld) turns on incremental linking. Incremental linking produces a non-executable LSB relocatable file and not a LSB executable file.

Because the incremental linking is done quietly it leads to user confusion when trying to execute the non-executable LSB relocatable file. The attempt to execute the resulting file results in a "Permission denied" error.

The demonstration below shows how the invalid -i option leads to this confusing situation and error.

$ ifort sample.f90 -o sample

$ file sample
sample: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, not stripped

Resolution Status : This is a known issue that will be fixed in a future release. Since -i is not a valid Intel compiler option, correcting or removing the option will resolve the issue.

Problem:

Build any application linking with dynamic IPP library, get build error: file not found:libiomp5.dylib 

For example, download the IPP sample m_ipp-samples_p_6.0.0.109 from http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-integrated-performance-primitives-code-samples/

Open the /image-processing/image-processing-functions/ippiDemo.xcodeproj in Xcode IDE.

Build the ippiDemo.xcodeproj project, it will fail with error message:  file not found:libiomp5.dylib

Build failed(1 error)

Resolution :
As a workaround, please try

1) # cd /Library/Frameworks/Intel_IPP.framework

2) # ./Versions/Current/tools/env/ippunbind.sh

3) # cp /opt/intel/Compiler/11.0/0xx/lib/libiomp5.dylib ./Libraries

4) # ./Versions/Current/tools/env/ippbind.sh

Please note: since 6.0, IPP libraries for Mac OS* was integrated to Intel® C++ Compiler Professional Edition. As the default OpenMP library (libiomp5.dylib, libiomp5.a) used by IPP are not in IPP Libraries/lib directory as previous versions. They are actually under Intel compiler lib directory /opt/intel/Compiler/11.0/0xx/lib now.

Other related error: "Library not loaded: libiomp5.dylib"

If add -liomp5 to the "Other Linker Flags" and added "/opt/intel/Compiler/11.0/0xx/lib/" to the "Library Search Paths" in the ippiDemo project.
Or
try IPP static link: add –lippsemerged –lippsmerged /opt/intel/Compiler/11.0/056/Frameworks/ipp/lib/libippcore.a

The project compiled, but at run time, it failed with error:
Library not loaded: libiomp5.dylib

Workaround:

If dynamic link IPP library, please try the resolution as above.

Detailed description: After installation of the Intel® C++ Compiler Professional Edition for Mac OS* X, version 11.1.029, with the associated Intel® IPP cryptography kit, an application built with the "-ipp=crypto" option will result in a linker failure because the library libippcpemerged.a does not exist in the directory /Developer/opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/029/Frameworks/ipp/lib. This library does exist in the base installation in /opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/029/Frameworks/ipp/lib.

Resolution Status :

Workaround: Copy libippcpemerged.a from /opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/029/Frameworks/ipp/lib/ to /Developer/opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/029/Frameworks/ipp/lib/. Or you can add the path /opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/029/Frameworks/ipp/lib/ to your link command.

Problem Description : The OpenMP* 3.0 standard now supports using STL iterators for OpenMP loop bounds.  However, the Intel® C++ Compiler does not parallelize code like the following:

  std::vector<double>::iterator it;

#pragma omp parallel for default(none) shared(vec) 
  for (it = vec.begin(); it < vec.end(); it++)
  {
    *it = 1.0;// do work with *it //
  }
}


The compiler will not give an indication (as it should) that the loop was parallelized for OpenMP*.  If you examine the code, you will see that the compiler generates a serial version of the loop.  This is because of an issue with the compiler using function calls on loop bounds that are inlined causing the compiler to not recognize the loop as being a validly formed loop for parallelization.


Resolution Status : This will be resolved in an upcoming compiler update.
