Technical Session: Virtualization for the Win! Scaling Electronic Sports League’s Servers Way Up (Wednesday, September 16 from 3pm-4pm, Room 18B)
Electronic Sports League (ESL) had a problem: how to scale up their server infrastructure to meet demand for single-threaded LAN servers, like Counter-Strike 1.6? They thought ‘virtualization can’t help, because the overhead is to high, right?’ Wrong! This case study shows how to effectively use the latest VMWare and Intel server technologies to support 18x the Counter-Strike gamers per server, without compromising any Quality of Service (QoS). At the same time, ESL saw dramatically improved power usage and cost savings. For this case study, VMWare ESX3.5, with NetQueue feature, Intel Xeon processor 7400 series based servers and Intel NICs with VMDq feature were used. Presented by Paul Lindberg and Sreeram Sammeta.

Intel® Graphics Performance Analyzer speedups in Demigod and Ghostbusters
(Thursday, September 17 from 11am-12pm, Room 15)
In this class, we’ll present two case studies of recently shipped titles that took advantage of the Intel® Graphics Performance Analyzers (GPA). In one case study, we’ll illustrate how gathering general measurements with Intel® GPA uncovered graphics bottlenecks, and in another case study we’ll show you how the tools dug deeper into the code to uncover other graphics performance issues. Here is your chance to witness how Intel® GPA uncovered hidden performance issues, how they were remedied and then see the performance benefit gained. Presented by Omar Rodriguez.
