Problem :
The 4.2.2 version of RPM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 for the Itanium architecture has a broken relocation feature. This will be a serious problem for users trying to install on clusters where there are shared devices.
Secondly, on Itanium architecture for some OSes (such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 Update 7 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 Update 2), the installation of the Intel® Math Kernel Library non-native components "…/lib/32" and "…/lib/em64t" is affected when those components are found to be missing after a distributed install is done into local directories on each node of the cluster.
Environment :
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 Update 7
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 Update 2
Root Cause :
Broken Relocation Feature in RPM 4.2.2
Resolution :
A recommended solution is for the user to upgrade to the latest release of RPM. Visit http://www.redhat.com to find a recent release of RPM that resolves this problem on Itanium.
In regards to the missing MKL components, two known workarounds for this issue are:
- Install the Intel® Cluster Tools at the default location (
/opt/intel) - Use the non-rpm mode for installation (i.e., use the installer command-line option
--nonrpm)
NOTE: The above problem does not seem to appear on SLES 10 and SLES 11 for Itanium.
