Poulsbo Chipset

Code name for low-power chipset for mobile Internet devices. Used with Silverthorne in Intel® Centrino® Atom™ processor technology based machines.

Part of the Menlow platform. Poulsbo includes 3D graphics, HD video playback (720p and 1080i content) and the memory controller.

Poulsbo is considered the code name for low-power chipset for mobile Internet devices. Mobile Internet Devices will have WiFi and WiMAX without dramatically reducing battery life. The chip makers are putting an effort to develop a version of the Mozilla Web browser using a touch-based interface that would be used on MIDs. Femtocell,is a miniature base station about the size of a backpack or even a desktop modem , may also be used . Mobile Internet Devices aims at open-source operating system with improved power management. Using MID you can connect when and where you need. It can been used in extended application and you can access personalized information based on your location, like the nearest restaurants, homes for sale, and a lot more with an inbuilt GPS technology.MID latest generation of small, powerful, highly portable Internet-connected devices combines many great capabilities.MID offers a great convenience of a small pocket-sized solution for all your internet surf related problems. MID can be used on-the-go,whenever and wherever you want to use. Mobile Internet Device will allow you to connect, entertain, stay informed , stay tuned and to be productive wherever you go. When will the Poulsbo driver be available for Karmic?

We're still waiting for a Poulsbo driver for linux.

Yeah, yeah yeah; all those words looks nice... But when do we see a real driver for Linux GMA 500 (poulsbo)... I'm stuck with this netbook since April.
So far, what was around last year on the moblin git doesn't even build with latest versions of Xorg. And also... What's the deal with the binary firmwares (two blobs to screw us twice)?.

Besides the fact that aceleration driver doesn't even work, I couldn't even build a 2D driver, so I'm using a vesa driver to write this message.

Things doesn't look good between Intel and Linux/open source/free software community because of this big stain. For me, this will be the last thing I buy with Intel chipset/microprocessor.

After over 2 years waiting for the drivers, this article sounds like Soviet propaganda. I guess we rather see nukes launched than these drivers...

Like so many large organisations, when something goes wrong, they just ignore it. Waiting for the voices to die down. I have always assumed this pratice to be due to arrogant lawyers using scare tactics to worry (as in worrier of sheep) middle management in to not doing the right thing.

Why don't intel just take a small hit, and give whatever code you have to the open community. If your license for the technology does not cover this, then sack the lawyer who signed that, and negotiate a new contract, then do it anyway.

In the end, your reputation will grow.
