Research Sponsorships

The Intel University Research Grant program - Because research is the key to developing next-generation technologies, Intel is working with universities worldwide. We enable the advancement of technology through a variety of programs including regional academic forums, university research grants and the funding of open and collaborative research labs.

Visual Computing Research Center in Europe

Intel recently announced that we will invest $12 million (USD) over the next 5 years to create a new research center that will explore advanced graphics and visual computing technologies. The Intel® Visual Computing Institute, located at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany, represents Intel's largest European university collaboration.

The lab will conduct both basic and applied research in realistic, interactive computer graphics and natural user interfaces. One of the new lab's charters is to actively solicit other academic and industry partners to join the research activities over time. By year's end the institute will employ about a dozen researchers from such sources as Intel, Saarland University, Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Max Planck Institute for Software Systems and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.

"Given the growing importance of visual computing technology, it made perfect sense to expand our relationship and form this new institute." said Justin Rattner, Intel senior fellow and chief technology officer. (see Justin Rattner's blog)

Universal Parallel Computing Research Centers

Intel Corporation and Microsoft Corp. have partnered with academia to create two Universal Parallel Computing Research Centers (UPCRC), aimed at accelerating developments in mainstream parallel computing, for consumers and businesses in desktop and mobile computing.

Intel and National Taiwan University (NTU) Healthy Project

To spur long-term and practical research to support the industry growth, Intel has worked closely with Taiwan's top universities on joint research projects focusing on topics from wireless and networking communications, to parallel programming, to Digital Home and Digital Health. Intel has sponsored quality research topics in Taiwan's universities with cash grants and the latest hardware donations to explore new usage models, to promote knowledge innovation, and to achieve breakthroughs in industrial development.

According to the annual report of National Taiwan University on Intel-NTU Digital Health Project, it indicates that the direct interaction with Intel has influenced their programs and directly resulted in improving their Research programs to be competitive at the tier one global level: 5 papers in A+, highly selective, peer-reviewed conferences and 15 papers in IEEE/ACM journals!

"Our publication results have shown that the generous grants from Intel Education Taiwan have contributed in raising the research quality standard at NTU as well as influencing Taiwan computer science research community."
