Participation

• NO PURCHASE NECESSARY to participate in this contest.

• The Entrant must be a student who is currently studying in an educational institution affiliated to VTU. The contest is only applicable in India.

• The contest will have two rounds.

• The Round-1 will be a quiz contest with questions of varying levels of difficulty. The points assigned to each question will depend on the level of difficulty of the question. Round-1 will be open from Mar 3rd to Apr 18th 2009. All entries received before 5pm IST Apr 18th 2009 will be accepted.

• Round-2 will be open from May 5th to Jun 25th 2009. All Entrants who score above the cut off score decided by the judges will be eligible to participate in Round-2. The cut off score will be dependent on number Entrants and their performance on the quiz. Participants who do not belong to a VTU affiliated institution will be disqualified.

• Participation in Round 2 of the contest is strictly restricted only to the qualifiers of Round1. The list of Round 2 qualifiers will be published on Intel Software Network at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php

• Any number of teams consisting of 2-4 students who have qualified on Round 1, along with a faculty member from the same institute can register for the Round 2 of the contest and submit their research paper. Any individual student who is eligible to register for the contest can be a part of only 1 team registered for Round 2 of the contest. Each team should also have an assigned faculty mentor from their respective institutes

• Participants need to register their team by sending an email to threadchampion@learninglinksindia.org with the list of team members, including the faculty mentor to get a valid username and password for the team. Only those research papers submitted using the team username and password will be considered for Round 2 of the contest.

• Research papers should be based on the research areas specified by Intel as mentioned on Intel Software Network at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php Proposals not falling under the research areas mentioned by Intel are most likely to be eliminated, which is at the sole discretion of Intel. The research areas for Round-2 of the contest will be published on or around April 27th 2009.

• Only one research paper per team is allowed for submission on any one of the research areas.

• The research paper in the prescribed format should be uploaded on Intel Software Network along with the duly filled up online registration form on or before Jun 25th 2009. All entries received before 5pm IST on Jun 25th 2009 will be accepted.

• The students and faculty will have to regularly check the contest terms and conditions for any developments or information that will be updated from time to time on Intel Software Network.

• The evaluation of the research paper will be done by the panel of judges. An incomplete entry in any respect will be rejected by team of evaluators

• Employees of Intel Corporation, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate in the contest.

• This contest and any claim arising under or relating to this contest shall be governed, construed and interpreted according to the laws of India with courts in Bangalore having the exclusive jurisdiction.


To Enter:

• Entries for both the rounds will need to be submitted on the electronic form provided at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php Entrants are invited to enter up to a maximum of 1 entry per participant. Entrants will need to qualify in Round-1 to enter Round-2.

• Entrants are required to enter their contact information so that Intel can contact them for contest announcements and prize distribution. The contact information will be treated in accordance with Intel's privacy policy.

• Intel shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry information, whether caused by persons entered at the Web site or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the promotion or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the entries in this contest.

• Upload your contest entry for Round-2 in electronic format at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php  By uploading your research paper, you: Agree to be bound by these rules;

• Irrevocably assign to Intel all right, title and interest in and to the copyright in your research paper, together with all causes of actions accrued in your favor for infringement thereof, recognized in any jurisdiction, whether or not perfected. If for any reason such assignment is ineffective, you irrevocably agree to grant, and you hereby grant, to Intel a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, unlimited, worldwide, fully paid, fully sublicenseable, and unconditional license to reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display and create derivative works of your solution;

• Grant to Intel a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, fully paid-up, royalty free, fully sublicenseable, irrevocable license, to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer your research paper alone or in combination with other works or products, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by you that are necessarily infringed by your solution alone or by combination of your contribution with other work; and

• Release and hold harmless Intel and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, prize suppliers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest or acceptance or use of prize.

• If you do not agree to the above terms, do not submit your contest entry. All research papers and any other submissions under this contest shall become the property of Intel. Intel reserves the right to use the information provided in ways deemed fit.

  

Selection of winners:

• All Entrants who score above the cut off score decided by the judges, in Round-1 will be eligible to participate in Round-2. The cut off score will be dependent on number of Entrants and their performance on the quiz.

• Names of qualifiers will be displayed at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php on Intel® Software Network on or around the 30th Apr 2009. Qualifiers will also be notified by e-mail within 7 days of declaration of the qualifiers by the judges. All qualifiers get a Certificate of Participation.

• Only one (1) research paper is allowed for each team. Editing and refining a Research Paper until the contest is declared closed is allowed.

• Concurrent submissions of the same research paper to other conferences / journals / websites are not acceptable.

• Intel reserves the right to reject any registration form/ proposal without assigning any reason thereof. Any decision taken in this regard shall be final and binding and not subject to any dispute or challenge.

• The participants hereby waive all rights and grant to Intel, a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual worldwide license to copy, modify and otherwise use and distribute their submission entry and, or, any element of the submission, in any and all media and in any publication whether online, offline or on the Internet. Intel shall also be free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how or techniques contained in such submissions or materials for any purpose.

• Intel does not make any commitment, express or implied, to respond to any feedback, suggestion and, or, queries of the participants or furnish reasons for inclusion and, or, exclusion of any particular submission of the participant at any stage of the contest

• Intel may assign any or all of its rights under these terms and conditions to its affiliates without consent of the participants.

• Participation in the contest shall be construed as an acceptance of the terms and conditions stipulated herein. Any breach or default by a participant of any of the terms and conditions herein shall result in immediate disqualification without notice.

• The participant undertakes to indemnify and keep Intel harmless and indemnified against any loss, damage, claims, costs and expenses which may be incurred or suffered by Intel due to breach of any terms and conditions contained herein by the participant and, or, arising from the participation of the participant in the contest.

• The panel of judges will select a winner of their choice based on the below criteria. The total possible score is 100 credits.

Scientific Thought / Engineering Goals - 20 credits

        •            Does the project have a clear objective/s?
        •            Is the objective relevant?
        •            Is the solution workable?
        •            Acceptable to the potential user?
        •            Is the solution a significant improvement over previous alternatives?
        •            Has the solution been tested?

Creative Ability - 20 credits

        •            Does the project show creative ability and originality in the questions asked
        •            The approach to solving the problem
        •            The analysis of the data
        •            The interpretation of the data

Clarity - 20 credits

        •            How clearly does the paper explain the purpose, procedure, and conclusions?
        •            Does the written material reflect the students' understanding of the research?
        •            How clearly are the data presented?
        •            How clearly are the results presented?

Thoroughness - 15 credits

        •           Was the purpose carried out to completion within the scope of the original intent?
        •           How completely was the problem covered?
        •           Are the conclusions based on a single experiment or replication?

Knowledge - 15 credits

        •            Do the students have detailed knowledge about the subject area?
        •            Are they familiar with engineering literature?
        •            Do the students have breadth of knowledge and understand related subject areas?
        •            Is the student aware of other approaches or theories?

Relevance of Topic to Intel - 10 credits

        •            Bonus Discretionary credits (variable)
        •            To be used for unique variables of a student or project.
        •            Was a particular team younger than the participants of other teams?
        •            Was the project of special note due to research area or other circumstances?
        •            Any other point as may be found to be of significance by the judging panel

• The final winners of Round-2 will be announce within 6 weeks from the close of the contest on the Intel® Software Network at http://software.intel.com/en-us/contests/threadchampion/index_quiz.php  The winners will also be notified by e-mail within 7 days of the judges decision.

• The qualifiers of Round-1 and the winners of Round-2 will be featured on Intel Software Network

• Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use the winner's name and/or likeness on the Web site for advertising/trade purposes without further compensation.


Prizes and Odds:

• The decision of the judges shall be final and binding and no correspondence or communication shall be entertained in this regard.

• All Round-1 qualifiers will get a Certificate of Participation.

• Three prizes to be given away in Round-2 for the research papers with the maximum number of points in Round-2. The winning team will get a cash prize of Rs.50,000/-. The runner up team will get a cash prize of Rs.25,000/- and the second runner up team with get a cash prize of Rs.15,000/-

• LIMIT ONE prize PER TEAM. All winners may be featured on the Intel® Software Network site. Prizes are not transferable and no prize substitution is available, except that the Sponsor reserves the right to substitute cash or a similar prize of equal or greater value should the prize be generally unavailable at contest end.

• The winners accept responsibility for all federal, state and local taxes and fees in connection with the prize.

• Intel sponsored grants of up to Rs. 2,50,000, only for the institute of the winning team of Round 2 to set up a multi-core lab will be made to the institute directly to cover the set up cost

• Cash grants are subject to tax deduction at source (TDS) as per the Government of India norms

 

General Conditions:

• Entrants agree to be bound by these rules. By entering the contest, Entrants release and hold harmless Intel and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, prize suppliers, employees and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Contest or acceptance or use of prize.

• Intel reserves the right to cancel, change, modify or withdraw this offer or its terms and conditions without assigning any reason or prior notice

• In addition to these terms and conditions, Intel may impose other specific terms any time to deal with any unforeseen situation. Intel also reserves the absolute right to change the terms and conditions contained herein and, or, any other rules and regulations in respect of the contest at any time without any notice, without assigning any reason and without any liability whatsoever. Participants are requested to refer to such other terms and conditions, if any, which may be displayed on-line or intimated separately as Intel considers fit. However, no obligation is cast on Intel to separately intimate each individual participant with regard to such additional terms and conditions

 

Internet:

If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right at their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry or voting process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. The Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in this Contest or downloading any materials in this Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner based on an e-mail address, the winning entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry if such entrant meets the qualifications stated above. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.
