If your application is GPU bound, you can use a keyboard shortcuts to capture a GPU frame for detailed analysis by the Intel® GPA Frame Analyzer. If your application is CPU-bound, you can use a keyboard shortcut to capture a trace file for detailed analysis by the Intel® GPA Platform Analyzer. Press Ctrl-F1 in the HUD to see the keyboard shortcut list.

Intel® GPA Frame Analyzer - provides a detailed view of a captured frame file, which contains all Microsoft DirectX* context used to render the selected 3D frame, as well as per-draw call/region GPU metrics. This tool enables you to understand the performance of your application at the frame level, render target level, and drawcall level. It enables detailed analysis and "what if" optimization experiments without the need to recompile or rebuild your application.

Intel® GPA Platform Analyzer (beta release) - visualizes the execution profile of the tasks in your code on the heterogeneous (CPU+GPU) PC platform over time. This tool collects trace data during the application run to provide detailed analysis of how your code executes across all threads, and correlates the CPU work with work being done on the GPU. The tool automatically aligns clocks across all cores in the entire system so that you can analyze CPU-based workloads together with GPU-based workloads on the timeline.

Intel® GPA Monitor - connects Intel® GPA to your application (locally or on a remote computer), and enables you to configure the HUD mode and keyboard shortcuts.

Level Up 2010 FAQs

Level Up 2010 Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible to enter?
If you are 18 years or older, you are eligible to enter the contest. This is a worldwide contest, with some restrictions. See the official rules.

I've changed my approved entry and it disappeared. What happened?
When you update or modify your entry, it will need to go back through our approval process before we post it. Be patient—it will reappear after our approval!

How are winners selected?
Judges' selections will determine the ten finalists in each of the three categories: Best Game for Desktops, Best Game for Laptops, and Best Game for Netbooks that meet the criteria of the categories based on their detailed game demo abstract, screenshots and short movies of their game demo. For final judging, a panel of Intel and game industry judges will review finalists and grade them according to playability, originality, and overall assessment of how well the game demo was done. For more details, please refer to the criteria outlined in the official rules.

Do I have to provide the source code for my game? Who owns the Intellectual Property (IP) for the game and the demo?
We want you to have a successful business model with your game, which is why this is a game DEMO contest. You retain all rights to your intellectual property, and you do not have to send us the source code. Finalists will assign to Intel the right to distribute their game demos—we'll post them on the contest website, show them at trade shows, conferences, etc. These are all great ways to increase the exposure of your demo, and hopefully drive sales of your full retail product.

From June 22 to July 11, 2010, what principles will be followed to evaluate entries to determine the ten finalists in each category?
All contestants must upload detailed descriptions (with optional screenshots and movies) of their game demo to the contest website by June 22, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. U.S. Pacific Standard Time (PST). From June 22-July11, 2010 Intel Community Managers and/or other Intel experts will select finalists based on originality of idea as well as the concept of the game play based upon the description and optional files provided by entrants.

Can my group or educational class submit an entry together?
Yes, but only one person or corporate entity will be awarded prizes, for tax purposes. Plan ahead and consult a financial advisor if you require tax advice.

What are the deadlines for the competition?
Full details are in the official rules. Contest registration and game descriptions (with optional screen shots or video) are due by June 22, 2010. Finalists will be notified by July 11, 2010. Detailed game demo abstracts and game executables are due by August 31, 2010, 3:00 p.m. U.S. Pacific Standard Time (PST). Winners will be notified by October 4, 2010 and announced at the Austin Game Developer’s Conference on October 5, 2010.

Considering that there are a lot of professional game developers out there, what are the chances that an indie/student/hobbyist like me will win?
The chances are very good! AAA developers often have exclusive deals for distribution of their game demos, or they have an existing technology relationship with Intel which would disqualify them from the contest. We expect that the vast majority of our entries will be from small developers and student groups. Check out the winners from 2009 for an idea of the types of games that will win.

Can members of the Intel® Software Partner Program enter this contest?
Registered or Associate members of the Intel® Software Partner Program are eligible to enter the contest, however if your company is a Premier or Premier Elite member, you have access to direct assistance from Intel engineers and you are not eligible to enter. We cannot directly help you compete in our own contest.

Can you provide any additional resources that can help me develop my game demo?
Yes! This was a common request from last year's contest. Visit the contest site throughout the coming months for links to gaming resources and developer communities. You should also bring items you’d like to discuss into the discussion forum we’ve set up especially for our contest participants. Get feedback from your peers and Intel Engineers. Also, be sure to see the Intel® Software Development Products designed especially for developers working on Intel® platforms.

Can we use an Open Source game engine to create the game?
Yes, the only requirement is that you have the right to distribute the finished product. If the Open Source code also requires distribution of source code, make sure you are in compliance.

Who is eligible to participate in LevelUp 2010 Contest for India?
Only residents of India are eligible to participate in the LevelUp 2010 Contest for India and win the specific Judge's Choice Awards designated for residents of India.

What are the prize categories to be won under the LevelUp 2010 Contest for India?
Residents of India participating in the Professional/Hobbyist category are also eligible for prizes for Best Overall Game, Best Casual Game, Best Art Design, Best Social Networking Game, and Best Content App Idea. Residents of India participating in the Student category are also eligible for prizes for Best Overall Game.

Will entries from Indian developers be eligible to win the other LevelUp 2010 prizes?
Yes, entries from Indian developers will also be eligible to win other LevelUp 2010 prizes apart from the judge’s category prizes for India.

Who can I contact for further questions?
Post to the contest forum, or send e-mail to us at isn.support@intel.com.
