I've used images in my posts so far - and they float to the right by default. I haven't really looked at the CSS - is there an easy way to make the float left in the theme that we are using?

Yeah, that annoys me as well. I am planning on rewriting the CSS and generated (X)HTML shortly. Originally this was setup to match the IT@Intel blog. I thought it would be nice to go with some sort of standard, but it is quite messy and we've wound up going down our own path.
