Wow, you guys are really persistent. :-)
Since I posted a comment in one of the previous discussions about the 915 Graphics Vista driver issue, that I was going to talk to the graphics group about the possibility of releasing an open source and/or "beta" unofficial WDDM driver, to let you at least try to get Aero Glass, Movie Maker, and DVD Maker working in Windows Vista, you've been coming here every day to see/ask if there's been any progress. So here's an update:
I haven't talked to the graphics group yet, because I'm trying to identify the right people to talk to. That's hard in such a big company (Intel has almost 100,000 employees, and I don't work directly with anyone in the Graphics group). But I'm going to find someone, eventually.
Why haven't I posted something sooner? Well, besides the fact that there wasn't any news, I was out of town last week for the MIX07 conference, and there's that whole matter of my job and having actual work to do. ;-) So I'm asking for a little patience on your part.
Also, remember that WINDOWS VISTA WORKS PERFECTLY FINE ON INTEL 915 GRAPHICS. It's just some of the advanced "eye candy" features, like Aero Glass, that don't work without a WDDM driver. To my knowledge, such a driver never existed. The fact that "it worked during the beta!" was due to the fact that Microsoft was allowing XPDM drivers to run the fancy stuff - the hard requirement for a WDDM driver wasn't put in place until later builds of Vista. There is no magical WDDM driver that Intel released during the beta, and subsequently pulled out of existence (someone would have found and hacked a version of that by now if that were the case). There is and only ever was the XPDM driver that exists today.
This isn't a ploy to make you all think that Intel "really cares" (sorry, conspiracy theorists!). I stepped in front of this bus on my own, and I intend to see it through to the end. I'm committed to maintaining transparency throughout the whole thing, too, so as soon as I know the outcome (good or bad), you will too. Stay tuned, and remember, there's NO guarantee or promise that anything will come of this! If the graphics group comes back and says they won't or can't release a WDDM driver for 915, then there's really nothing more we can do. At least we will have tried.

whats happening guys?? its now november and nothing has happened !! wheres josh gone ?? did he talk to any official people?? i read in a earlier post that intel could actually release a beta unnoficial wddm!! is this true?? absolutle disgrace this is !!! MILLIONS yes MILLIONS of people have been affected by this and intel and microsoft ( i suppose) havnt done a god damme thing about it !! there just not interested !! i see the petition has now got over 5000 signatures and im sure it would have a damme sight more if people new about it !! what really pisses me off is that theres no official person coming out and telling us the real deal !! i cant believe a company like intel wouldnt be concerned about its consumers on this issue !! and also labelling the intel 915 chipset " LOW END " "legacy" even though it supports directx 9.0 and pixel shader 2.0 !! big company like intel aint interested!! you would like to think a big company would listen to its customers!! how very wrong i was!!!!
that petion needs to be seen by somebody high up the ladder and all these complaints!! but i bet you they aint even saw it !!!!!!!
are intel forgetting that hundreds of thousands of people have gone out and bought windows vista!!! only to be told they cant run it !! i payed £350 for vista ultimate installed it but couldnt get aero!!! but intel doesnt care about that aslong as people still buy there produts they dont give a s*** about nothing!!! i want to hear from someone high up in the graphics department?? how come they dont come out and give us a detailed explanation??? they just fog us off with a stupid faq!! i think we can safely say we are not going to get what we want ( i hope im wrong) how come something more serious hasnt happened ?? were not just talking a couple of hundred people were talking millions!!! in the paper it said only 5% of people in uk will be able to upgrade to vista premium!! i cant stand it when people say its a low end legacy chip !! my laptop cost £700 when i bought it october 2006!!!!!! and the chip is directx 9.0 and pixel shader 2.0 compliant!!! also i just cant get my head round his HARDWARE SHEDULAR what the f**k is it ??? even that chuck da sylva guy didnt seem to know what it was?? any way every single person affected by this should boycott all intel products in the future!!!!

thanks for these product
Hello guys,
i really hate this situations : a man (xavier in this case) that try to make something really hard o really long to create (wddm drivers for 915 in this case) and says it to all over the world....And we that are believing that this will be created!!! Every day we check for news wasting our time.
Dears, the only solution is to change our hardware , and the only thing tha we ca do are complaints versus intel and a complete boicottage about intel products...
Cheers
Carmelo
A good question is "would another driver for a similar chipset allow the videocard performance to improve if the videocard had the same or less in specification requirements?"
Hi,
Its waste of time man. I changed my laptop. Now i purchased the Nvida display adaptor. But processor i can't do anything. I need intel cpu for my work.
