There has been quite some discussion on the Manageability Forum concerning the AMT Status Window that pops up and tells folks whether their system is AMT Enabled or not. Even though a checkbox has been added to the window that will stop displaying it, I am hearing that they just don't want it to appear at all. I did some digging around and found the following info.
Where does it come from: The Intel® AMT Status application is installed as part of the LMS-SOL when the Setup.exe is executed. After being installed, the application appears on the taskbar and is started every time Windows* boots. But according to what I have found there is an out (in a Readme document -- which btw, I'm usually the last one to read these even though they often contain very good information!)
To check Intel® AMT status:
Run atchk.exe (the Intel® AMT Status Application)
To set the computer to always display the status icon on the Windows taskbar:
Files included with the Intel® AMT status application:
atchksrv.exe - This service will automatically start when Windows* boots. This service takes care of the administrator privileges needed by the "non-administrator" users to make use of the Intel® AMT Status application. And hence, the Intel® AMT Status is displayed for "non-administrator" users also.

| Interesting.. I looked for it on my HP system as well and couldn't find it. I would try to run the "disable.reg" file and see if the error goes away. The LMS/SOL installation would have to be specific per vendor, I would think, since drivers would be specific to a particular vendor - it could be that Lenovo implemented it differently. I will look into this some more. |

Gael, I think you can disable the entry directly in the windowns registry. [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "atchk"="" This will prevent the privacy icon application from ever running again. I have outlined the same in the blog post. http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2007/04/26/instruction.....ion-popup/ |

Gael | Yes. (And Thanks for your comment!) I was trying to hunt down a way without having to go into the registry. :-) That readme file that I found mentions that a service gets started. I'm going to go down and check my non-HP systems to see if they have the service running. I was looking into this primarily because one the the questions on the forum stated that an error message was received because this service was not running. |

| Ok.. This service does exist on my non-OEM systems. The display name is: "Intel® System Status Service" with the name being "atchksrv". I stopped the service and set it to start manually, rebooted and got the same error message that appeared on our Manageability forum. After getting the error upon reboot, I decided to follow the instructions in this blog - I went to the Program Files\Intel\AMT folder and ran the "disable.reg" utility and restarted my system again. This time, no status window appeared and no errors. |
