Back after a long and nice summer. Not to much TV watching for me during the summer as I think a good book fits the beach much better...
With the Athletics World Campionships that just has started, things change however. The competition is in Japan, giving the effect that you are not always (=almost never) close to a TV-set when you want to see something live. This is where Mobile TV really shines. Semi-short live events taking place when you are out of the house.
Ok, I am biased towards athletics as I in prior life has trained and competed in athletics for almost 15 years. But even without that background this is a huge event
But the Olympics next summer is going to be huge, as you all know. This will give Mobile TV a big boost to the general public, if just the client devices and networks are up for it.
When on the subject of Networks, I have to mention the progress around DVB-H during the summer.
DVB-H has made taken some steps forward by getting the EU-commisions blessing in Europe. Great news as I think we do need a standard fast for broadcast mobile TV. Otherwise clients are going to be scarse...
At the same time more DVB-H has more or less died over in US. The New York trial was ended and the frequenzies are up for sale.
Now Im going to look at the 10 000 meters final, streamed from home to my UMPC... :-)

Streaming from a Pinnacle PCTVToGo. If I am at the office I recive it over WiFi, if Im on the run (bus, in a park...) I stream it over 3G. In Europe it seems everybody is waiting for a CA standard to be agreed upon (which will almost certainly be OMA Bcast Smartcard profile) as well as waiting for the frequenzy allocation. This autumn will be an interesting one for DVB-H in Europe as almost everything will be in place by then. |

it seems that DVB-H trial in the US was not successful, what do you think of why? how's the development of DVB-H in Europe?
