The new family member of Ideapad

Lenovo announced its new brand strategy, and Ideapad is the one that is a brand new name in town. Day 1 keynote of Anand Chandrasekher, Senior Vice President and General Manager leading the Ultra Mobility Group talked about the opportunity for MID products and how it might change the industry. Lenovo Vice President Li Xia walked on stage joining Anand during the keynote session of and announce this long awaited MID product from Lenovo, Ideapad U8.

U8 have been showcased in various industry events since the early 2008, first in CES and then in Cebit. There are some cool demos during the keynote featuring a U8, and expect a video clip from Josh on this. What I cal tell to our software developers is that Ideapad U8 is based on the latest Atom processor, featuring a Linux OS based on Moblin by Redflag which is a Chinese local Linux distribution vendor. There are some customization being done to address the specific usage model for MID products with the support from Intel and the open source community. Connectivity wise, it features the expected wifi as well as a WWAN option. And my sources told me that it would be available before the 2008 Olympics Game in China.

hello, I notice the post was written in last year, but I still hope you will see my comment and reply my question in e-mail.

We are working on a project developing mid. It seems Lenovo IdeaPad U8 has too small Ram and harddisk for the installment of intel cluster toolkit. We wonder whether there is a way to install intel cluster toolkit or part of them on U8?

We are searching for developing tools on the mid, seems there is difficulty ahead.

Thanks for your time.
