Okay now that I've got your attention with those words "wanna go fly?", this blog post is a little different than any of the other posts I've written here, in that it is the first of many where I'll introduce you to a passion of mine, flying.
Today I'll be taking a Cessna 172 from Sacramento Executive airport, KSAC, and I'm going to go fly somewhere and just experience the wonder of flying over the beautiful California landscape. If you were able to come with me you'd see that flying can still be fun and doesn't have to involve taking your shoes off for a TSA officer to catch your next commercial flight.
Obviously I can't take everyone reading this, or even everyone I work with at Intel, flying. It was this realization that inspired the movie One Six Right. I'll challenge anyone, to not be awed by cinematography in this movie and its musical score. If you do not fly then you may be a little confused by the name of this movie, One Six Right refers to the heading of the runway at Van Nuys Airport where this movie envelops the audience in the wonders of flight and the history of general aviation in the United States. Taxiing onto the centerline of runway 16R you'll have heading upon takeoff of one six zero or 160 degrees, the zero is dropped from runway identifiers. The R indicates that it is the right hand runway of a pair of parallel runways. Runway 16L provides the name for the movies companion DVD. One Six Left introduces you to some more amazing cinematography along with the story behind the movie and the people who created this movie.
Whether you are already a licensed pilot or someone like my four year old son, who dreams of one day flying an airplane himself, or maybe someone who just likes the look of airplanes on the ground at airshows; I'd really recommend you give some time to watching this movie. Trust me, you won't regret it!!!
