Videos from SIGGRAPH '08

Just back from SIGGRAPH - Jerry & I filmed the demos in the Intel booth, as well as a few interviews with Intel® Software Partners. The booth showed end-to-end production of an animation from creation to film editing, as well as developer tools and COLLADA applications.

Many, many cool videos to share - which we couldn't upload on the spot due to slow wireless, so they all went live over the weekend.  What an amazing show - we captured a bit of it for you, without the flight to Los Angeles nor the LAX delays on the return that I suffered.

Some highlights:

1)  Organic Motion: We visited the Organic Motion booth, and spoke w/Jonathan Rand, President of the company, who showed us their new motion capture system  that uses 15 cameras to capture the motion of anyone who walks into the booth (including me -- see my cameo at the end), and immediately digitizes it into an animated character.

2) Adobe: Film Editing & Tapeless Workflow: How could we not film the guy with purple hair in our booth? Kevan O'Brien, Adobe Systems Field Engineer, shows how Adobe AfterEffect and Premiere support a RED tapeless workflow. We also filmed Adobe's 25-minute session in our booth on 3D Integration Using Adobe After Effects, CS3, and Cinema 4D.

3) Ambient Design Director of Business Development, Uwe Maurer, gives a on Art Rage 2.5 paint package and end-to-end production flow. This was one of the most popular demos in our booth. Fun watching her paint and create a new animation!

4) Autodesk showcased their 3DSMax high quality rendering application in addition to MudBox which allows for real-time sculpting w/out rendering.

5)  COLLADA tools:Kai Pedersen, Tech Support Manager for Maxon, gives Take Five Videos a look at how Collada is used in the production pipeline.

6)  Joe Micallef, Side Effects Software, talks about Houdini 9.5 and shows the development of animation and gaming effects:

7)  Pre-SIGGRAPH Plugfest: Dr. Remi Arnaud and Rita Turkowski held a plug-fest where different companies came together to test COLLADA tools by sharing of gaming and digital content files and fixing bugs... Here are two videos from the plugfest:
