I just heard that
Sean Maloney will be speaking at the next Sun Tech Days in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 30!
If you have not heard of Sean, here are some tidbits:
- Sean is one of the four executive VP’s that report to Intel’s CEO, Paul Ottelini, according to his Wikipedia page
- Sean was former GM of the Communications Group and the Mobile Group
- He currently runs Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group
- Sean has been one of the strongest global advocates of WiMAX (which makes perfect sense, given the roles he has had).
So Sean has both the technical and business chops to be very credible.
I am really overjoyed that he will be talking at Tech Days, since this is a free event for software developers. I believe he may be talking about our OpenSolaris and Java advances. It should be fun, informative and interesting!
This is a great opportunity for developers in Latin America to hear from this strong Intel leader on Intel’s future, and our open source development work.
If you are interested in signing up for this event, go to this
Sun Tech Days web site.
More globally, Intel will be getting involved in Tech Days in a number of the events. Go to the for more information. (I think I or my staff may be speaking at some of these events. I’ll try to keep you informed through this blog).
Now, a little personal meandering…
My first memory of Sean was in the late 1990s after I joined Intel. I remember a “thank you” event for hitting a major milestone (it might have been a one millionth chipset shipment or something like that), and various executives made a video greeting to the employees who were responsible for the success. Absolutely the most enthusiastic guy on the video was Sean, who might have jumped off a piece of furniture.
My most recent memory of Sean had him in another internal video, portraying what Intel might be like 40 years in the future. Imagine the 90 year old Sean with a mane of white hair talking about our advances. Pure gold!
If you will be attending this Tech Days, I am envious! It should be great hearing Sean.
