A number of new features and improvements went live on Intel Software Network last week. My personal favorite is how easy it is going to be from now on to contribute & share articles, videos and blogs.
One of the new features is also a ranking system and community recognition. While the Intel Black Belt Software Developer title recognizes members for demonstrating community leadership and strong technical expertise, there are many other members who participate actively, share knowledge & contribute to our communities. This ranking system recognizes the achievements of these members and their contributions to Intel Software Network communities.
Intel Brown Belt Software Developer and Intel Green Belt Software Developer are the new titles. (Yes :) … they fall in line with the Black Belt title we launched recently, the icons are however different for these titles)
Read more about the criteria for these titles here. Both these new titles are based on a points system and are controlled by software while the Intel Black Belt Software Developer Title is based on nomination.
As you accumulate points, you will progress through the two levels and receive associated icons. You can view a history of your contributions, associated points as well as title in your user profile (which also is now more detailed, showing a history of all your contributions and points accumulated).
With that, enough said about the recognition program. Take a minute to check out the new features on Intel Software Network, find your belt status and as always, let me know what you think :)

The same applies to articles and other content. I think that you must rely more heavily on user ratings (rate with starts, best answer), because users are able to distinguish interesting/useful/professional content and 'just' content, and ISN not able to automatically distinguish between those things. Btw, ISN can add on 1 point when user marks some content with stars. |

What about rewarding for code contributions to Intel Threading Building Blocks, as Jim Dempsey was proposing? I think it's sensible idea. |

There are also Chinese and Russian branches of ISN: http://softwarecommunity-cn.intel.com/ http://softwarecommunity-ru.intel.com/ It will be great if they will be included into rating system too. In the end what's the difference whether one contributes to main English site or to Chinese/Russian ISN branch. |

| As always, great feedback Dmitriy! Yes we do have plans to evolve the ranking system and i am making a note of all your suggestions. We do have plans to incorporate the ranking system in the chinese as well as russian communities. As of now we are looking at early next year. Will keep everyone posted. :-) |

Do you mean that Chinese and Russian communities will have their own separate ranking systems? Or there will be single united ranking system? |

| I am really impressed by this new system . Hope this is the idea you developed from the online survey reviews . Great idea and hope this will increase participation in the intel communities . @Dmitriy V'jukov , Hope they will have a separate ranking system as we all can't go and view the forums and post replies . |

Personally I would prefer unified ranking system. As for links to Chinese and Russian sites from main English site, maybe they can be marked somehow... with icon/color/text. |

Hi Gunjan, I think you might have to keep an eye on submission spam... The last few days I've noticed spam like this getting posted: http://software.intel.com/sites/coolsw/story.php?title=Disco.....lickbank-1 As users we can bury it, but word's likely going to get around and you might end up under a spam avalanche. Like what you guys are doing here and don't want to see anyone wreck it! |

| I don't see any explanation of what the Status Points mean or how they accrue? |

Hi Gordcarpwall, that is a great comment. Yes i do realize the possibility of increase in spam. I am currently working on ways through which we can monitor it. Dale, status points are accumulated exactly in the same way as total points. The only difference is that status points indicate the number of points earned after earning a particular status - i.e. green or brown. These points are used to re-qualify status 12 months later. | Gunjan, thanks for the link, that article contained additional details (the entire 2nd half) that was added in a different font so my guess is many had the same questions. Appreciate your reply. |

| Gunjan , you might try to use some Spam Removal Tool or anti-spam software. Using a captcha image or simply maths question would reduce the spam . |

But I find some moments in the ranking system unfair/imperfect. Do you have any plans to change/improve ranking system in future?
For example, here is my reply in forum:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-threading-build.....ply/64640/
I write 2 sentences, and, well, I hope I help to topic starter. I spent on it about 3 minutes. I've got for it 20 points.
And here is topic I started:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-threading-build.....pic/60617/
I spent on it about 1 hour, and I've revealed very serious and extremely subtle bug which present in stable and commercial releases of TBB. I've got for it 10 points.
I find it quite unfair. I think that amount of points must depend on type of topic (general discussion, product defect, getting started, feature request).
