Extreme Parallelism with Windows 7
By Doug Holland (Intel) (249 posts) on December 11, 2008 at 12:53 am
Windows 7 and the server version which will be released as Windows Server 2008 R2 will scale to 256 processor cores providing the potential for some extreme parallelism scenarios.
Microsoft Channel 9 features Mark Russinovich "Inside Windows 7" where he details the changes to the scheduler within the operating system that had previously been limited to only 32 cores upon 32-bit Windows or 64 cores upon 64-bit Windows.
Windows 7 beta one is expected to be available January 13th 2009 although it is uncertain whether Windows Server 2008 R2 beta one will be available at the same time. Any one have a 256 core machine I can borrow within the first few weeks of next year?

Hey Jim You could try clicking the following URL which should take you directly to the WMV file which you can view in Windows Media Player. Good to hear from another black belt :) Regards, Doug |

If you'd prefer a high definition version try: http://mschnlnine.vo.llnwd.net/d1/ch9/9/1/1/5/3/4/Russinovic.....MB_ch9.wmv - Doug |
