Why is it so difficult to locate this driver? It does not come included in the 7000 build and it does not show up in Windows Update, and it's not on Intel's website... genius. How about a link to the damn thing?

The driver comes with Win7 and can be assigned manually through the Device Manager. It does not work for GMA 945 chipset. I cannot get the 945 chipset to work under any circumstances... maybe someone will come up with a fix later.

I'm really happy to hear, that intel will make this development.
I have a 915, i dont need aero, only full hardware support for video playback. The winxp driver worked with win 7 6956 release, but with 7000 it crashes.

Many thanks

I just installed Windows 7 on my system with the Intel DX58SO motherboard and Core i7 920 processor. I still have six devices that need functional drivers. I would be good for the user community and for Intel to put Beta versions of drivers out for test as they become available.

Intel 915 chipset

The drivers that come with windows 7 are the ‘old’ Xp drivers developed by intel.
There will be no wddm-support and thus no aero - NEVER (you can find a lot of information about the issue – just google intel 915 vista capable).

That's not the real thing that bothers me now (I can live without aero). Worse, there is a problem with the intel driver for windows 7: as described above, the system freezes whenever you play video, or whenever an application uses direct3d/directdraw.
The only workaround for the moment I figured out, is to lower the hardware acceleration to the point that you disable all directdraw and direct3d accelerations (in the display/screen resolution menu, advanced settings and troubleshoot). This works fine, but this entails some limited functionality (you will p.e. not be able to run screensavers/games that need Direct3D).

What I do except from Intel, is that at least they release drivers for the 915 chipset that fully support Directdraw and direct3d acceleration under windows 7, taking into account the millions of people who have an even recent laptop with this chipset (I bought mine X41 tablet only two years ago!).

Dough, can you check this?
Thank you,

I've got the same problem with my Dell/Inspiron 1525. Windows 7 installed perfectly but, I have the Intel GM965 card and Win7 won't accept the driver. I've attempted to do an update from the device manager but it tells me that my driver is up to date. I'm assuming that's incorrect as my screen looks like a tie dye, psychedelic nightmare.

Any suggestion short of reinstalling another operating system or dropping it out the window would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Doug,

Would you be able to find out for us if there are any plans to support the Intel 852GM/852GME/855GM/855GME chipsets in W7?

Would really appreciate this for my Dell Latitude D400.

Cheers.

I have the same lockup issue with a Dell X1 laptop with video and Intel 915 video card. Sounds like it is easy to reproduce...

Hi Johan, and others,

I have contacted people within Intel regarding the issues raised here and will provide an update as soon as I know more.

I agree that it would be very useful for Intel to allow you to download drivers for the Windows 7 beta as they become available. I'll suggest that we do provide early access to drivers although I'm not sure when or even if this will be done.

Regards,

Doug
