Since this is ANOTHER chance for MS/Intel to agree on flexing the development for older hardware for Windows 7. They know people won't know its not supported before buying the damn windows 7, thats why. Its not that hard for them to pour like one technician into this project. Why won't they do it? And why won't just 1 group of tech know it alls just get together and hack a related 9XX family WDDM driver for the 915GM. Just do it please, millions of people are counting on it. They can even "unoficially" give us a link and give us whiners for this thing a spin. And we wont' tell anyone, but we'll shut up once and for all. PLEASE!

I am yet another one who asks for better drivers for 915GM. It was really disappointing that there was no good graphics drivers for old computers. Video playback is now really bad, even though it is possible to use VLC media player to watch DVDs.

So: Please! Update the 915GM drivers for Vista and win7!

@brY and others: please understand that we're talking about a beta, and that it's understandable that the old Vista (XP) drivers are not working perfectly out of the box. So I think we have to be patient.
@Doug: I appreciate your efforts. I’m looking forward for the outcome of the contacts you had with the people within Intel regarding the issues.

Hey Johan,

I'd like to thank you for your comment and will definitely update everyone here as and when I am able to do so.

It is important to realize, as Johan indicates, that Windows 7 is a beta operating system and as such driver support cannot be expected to be along the same lines of a released operating system.

While Microsoft was developing Windows codename "Longhorn", which was released as Windows Vista, they talked extensively about what would be in the operating system. Unfortunately the Windows Vista team set the bar very high and was unable to deliver on many commitments they previously made.

With Steven Sinofsky running the Windows division the teams are being more silent as the operating system takes shape in Redmond. Sinofsky ran Microsoft Office the same way and as such Office has not received the same negative publicity due to over commitments.

Along with the Windows division you'll see that many companies are also talking less about what they will deliver for Windows 7 in terms of applications, devices, and associated device drivers.

As Windows 7 takes steps towards the release candidate and ultimately the final build you'll see more and more driver support from various companies. Yesterday I discovered there was now a Windows 7 beta driver for a Creative Labs sound card that I have in a desktop machine at home.

Regards,

Doug

I'm not as much complaining, as I am trying to make a point. TO: Doug since you are the proxy in this situation to communicate with Intel, well this is the CRUCIAL moment of us making a point so they will consider it, this is the perfect time since every is decided right now. Some of the people here are making it sound like its sufficient as long as the OLD DRIVERS that were not even created to be used with Vista even and just do a half ass job and make the final of Windows 7 still use the XP drivers?! NO WAY! Doug why don't you ask Intel or MS wouldn't it be easier for them to bring the 915GM up to spec with the other 9XX series. Its not impossible, and its just a suggestion, they just need to realize how much of us are eager and disappointed we're handicaped everyday I use my computer, I dread not having the aero peek previews its not just about aesthetics, the functionality of Windows is impaired without the various Aero only features. Let us have it!

Doug,

This is the moment when MS and Intel are considering what to put development in. Please since they already have WDDM 1.1 drivers pretty strong for the other 9XX cards, obviously they have to decide now how to support 915 users, can you let them know its not acceptable to just modify the current XP drivers, they are not fair in not giving the 915 its full potential.

I they claim Aero isn't sufficient why did it work in one of the Vista Beta experiment drivers?! Its because they did not have time during Vista development, or one of the engineers got lazy or overlooked. This time is different. Windows 7 development time is expanded to almost a year, this is the time.

Tell them to just simply start development with that one beta in Vista that had a driver that allowed Aero, and continue development on that so its ready for release right before Release Candidate of 7! That is the perfect plan. Thank you.
