Symantec EndPoint Protection on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I have been using Symantec EndPoint Protection, formerly known as Symantec Corporate AntiVirus, for over a year now on our home PC's because it also supports server versions of the Windows operating system.

Yesterday I found the following Web page on from Symantec Support which indicates that Symantec EndPoint Protection version 11.0.4 can be used unsupported on the Windows 7 beta.

After downloading the Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 update I successfully installed it on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Before you decide to also download the Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 update and install it on either Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 you should remember that this is not supported by either Symantec or Microsoft.

When installing Symantec EndPoint Protection 11.0.4014 you may see the following warning indicating there could be compatibility issues. Given that the Symantec Support page seemed to indicate the software could be installed upon Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, I personally ignored the warning and let the install continue.

Obviously this blog post represents the thoughts and opinions of the author and does in no way imply an endorsement of Symantec EndPoint Protection by Intel Corporation.

Hey Igor,

Good to hear from you and I hope life is treating you well since we last spoke at IDF.

I personally have had a good experience with Symantec corporate products and with some of the Norton home products and EndPoint Protection is a good solution if you need to protect server versions of Windows. Most home anti-virus solutions such as Norton Anti-Virus 2009 will not install upon the server versions of Windows.

Doug

have you been able to install this on the recent builds? it seems to be blocked after about 7057 or so.

Hey Loki,

Yes ... the setup does proceed on later builds although obviously this is a pre-release version of Windows and Symantec states on their support website that they will not officially support EndPoint Protection on Windows 7 until the RTM build is available.
