Intel AMT SW Part 8: Newfangled Intel Management and Security Status

Hi All, here's a new post in the series of thorough articles about Intel AMT software :).
We've blogged about what the software is for, what is the UNS and how to work with the atchk status icon. But all that atchk notification information was relevant to Intel AMT up to version 3.x -- from 4.x and on, we have a brand new application to help users understand the manageability capabilities installed on their computers: The Intel Management and Security Status.

What's new?
The old application was described as software that "to be as transparent to the end-user as possible, informs the user on the current status of Intel AMT".
The new application comprehends many other faces of the Intel AMT technology: Not only the disabled/enabled information is shown, but also other data such as configuration status, the firmware and driver version,  redirection sessions status and more.

This is what the users see in his computer (compare to the old one here):

The interface is now much bigger in order to accommodate the new information. The good news is that this software doesn't pop-up when MS Windows loads, it stays silent at the notification area.

The first tab (above) shows the status of Intel AMT, as well as a historical list of Intel AMT-related events.

The second tab (below) shows more in-depth info, the configuration modes, different feature status, a lot of troubleshooting info and  even a command button to start CIRA connection (learn about CIRA connection in this article by Ajith, and see how to configure and use CIRA in this post by Gael).

The third tab in the app justifies the new name (Intel Management and Security Status). It shows information about Intel TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in case your platform supports it:

Configuration
As you can see, the new application can be easily configured from the main tab:
The two checkboxes allow each user to choose whether the application should load to the notification icons area when Windows starts, and whether the application should display alerts in the form of balloons.

But there are much more options to this application! Stay tuned, as the next article will describe the other configuration options that can be set through the registry, much like the modifications available for the old atchk status application.
