Visualize this! Live from Siggraph - Luxology and its use of multicore

By Arti Gupta (Intel) (31 posts) on August 17, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Hello and welcome to another episode of Visualize this! where we talk about topics relating to Visual computing. I am Arti Gupta community manager for games development at Intel Software Network.

For Siggraph this year we decided on streaming live interviews with software vendors who are well known in the visual computing world and have worked with Intel products.

I spoke with Brad Peebler Vice President at Luxology about modo, Nexus and how their use of threading, Intel processors and threading tools has enabled them to meet their scale needs

Here is a synopsis of the interview:
1. Luxology has products for artists to meet their modeling and rendering needs, can you tell our audience about these? (level set the audience and intro to your products)
2. Luxology is a member of the Intel Software Partner Program. What challenges were you trying to solve? (talk about performance needs for modo based on user expectations, keeping up with latest hardware, etc)
3. How has working with Intel technologies helped you reach a broader audience? (can provide for both Mac and PC, CPU vs GPU focus)
4. How has the Nexus, the engine for modo, made better use of threading? can you talk to what was the challenge and how you addressed it?
5. Besides using Intel hardware you also used tools like Vtune Performance Analyzer and threading tools, how did the use of these tools help you scale? Feel free to go into technical details here, you can also show clips and talk to that.
6. You mentioned Luxology has optimized modo for the latest Intel platforms. What kind of performance improvements did you see? Feel free to go into technical details here, you can also show clips and talk to that.
7. Can you share some user stories of how they used Luxology products? (we can show videos/sounds clips here)
8. How has the relationship with Intel helped? (talk about ISPP, early access to hardware and Intel engineers)
9. What innovations are in the works at Luxology?
