Linux Jobs Are Hot

Not only are Linux jobs glamorous and fun, since you can impress your geeky friends with all kinds of cool command line wizardry, but Linux professionals are also in high demand, and Linux jobs can pay better than some other IT jobs.

If you don't want to take my word for it, here is some data from Dice.com to back me up.

  • Red Hat and Novell SUSE professionals make 10% more than other IT workers with an average annual salary of $87,000 vs. $79,000 for other IT workers.
  • Linux job openings on Dice.com were up by 5.5% during the last half of 2009, while jobs focused on other operating systems dropped.
  • California and New York were the two states with the most Linux job openings.

The Linux Foundation also noticed the rising demand for Linux professionals when it opened up the new job board on Linux.com. You can read my earlier post about the Linux.com job board for more details. When we're in a tough economy, it's nice to have some skills that are in high demand!
