GDCE2010: How will next release of Intel GPA look like?
By Michael J Huelskoetter (90 posts) on August 18, 2010 at 6:13 am
During Game Developers Conference Europe 2010 we had the opportunity to talk to Aaron Davies from Intel who is in charge of their tool suite Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers which you can use for detecting bottlenecks in your game code. If you wanna learn more about Intel GPA you can watch the related video post which we created right here at GDCE 2010.
What we've learnt from Aaron are four things:
1. The next Intel GPA release will be announced during GDC 2011 which will take place in San Francisco around March timeframe.
2. The Intel GPA update will correspont to the announcement of Sandy Bridge, Intel's next micro-architecture which will follow the current Nehalem architecture. Therefore tools like Intel GPA will align with new technologies like Sandy Bridge and thus offer new features which will perform best on new Intel platforms.
3. The new feature "Platform View" which is still in beta will become a "real" feature and the third component of next Intel GPA release.
4. Finally - as Intel is keen on supporting software developers all over the world - Intel GPA will be available for free as it's helpful, efficient and will thus help game developers creating flawless and performant gaming titles. And Intel GPA is cross-platform, which makes it even easier to get the right tool for your developing environment.
So, and if you wanna watch our video interview, just go and push the button!
