Started work on OpenID / OpenSocial support

We are hard at work building new features of the MeshCentral web site. In the last week, we started work on two more features that are high on the list. First, OpenID. It's insane to think that web users will create one more account in MeshCentral to manage a few computers when they already have web accounts all over the place. OpenID will let you log into MeshCentral using your Google or Yahoo account and you don't have any password to remember. In fact, if you are already logged into Google, users are two clicks away from having a presence on MeshCentral. I have been using DotNetOpenID in my ASP.NET server to add OpenID support and last night it worked for the first time.

Well, OpenID is all well and good, but before this new feature makes it into the production server, I need to also add the feature to Mesh Connector, the little tool that creates mesh networks and links the mesh to the web account. All of the Mesh tools will need to have OpenID support too.

Another feature we are working on is Open Social. This allows us to build a gadget that can be inserted into other sites like iGoogle or Linkedin. The idea there is to make logging into MeshCentral seamless as possible. Most of the time, we want to just get an overview of the power use and location of our computers but nothing more. A gadget can do that very well. If you need more, the gadget can provide a link to the site for more management options.

In addition to OpenID and OpenSocial, we are working on improvement in our Twitter support. That should be coming up in the next couple weeks.
