TeraFLOP in 20W by 2020?
By James Reinders (Intel) (48 posts) on September 12, 2011 at 7:01 pm
In 1996, a TeraFLOP was possible with only one computer in the world. By 2005, more than 500 computers could deliver a TeraFLOP. By 2020, many expect that an ExaFLOP machine (a million TeraFLOPs) can be built and consume only 20 MW of power. That means a TeraFLOP of computing will require only 20W. That's a far cry from the 850 kW of power it took in 1996.
What sort of fun math can you have with all this?
850 kW to 20W in 24 years. And the world is only getting faster?
