I was at Hive user group meetup NYC the night before Strata + Hadoop World 2012, and talked about “SQL (92 and beyond) Support for Hive”, such as:
- Complete SQL data type system
- Full subquery support
- Multiple-table SELECT statement
- Advanced OLAP functions
- Procedural extensions
- …
And we had very good discussions on more SQL support for Hive, as well as our efforts on building an SQL engine for Hive/MapReduce under Project Panthera (https://github.com/intel-hadoop/project-panthera). Please see my slide deck below.
