Dear Intel Software Developer Community,
Since the launch of the Intel AppUp® center in September 2009, our team has worked diligently to help create and upload applications for many digital storefronts, worldwide. We have been working on numerous improvements to our tools and capabilities to improve the experience for consumers wanting to get the best desktop applications, and make the Intel AppUp center the best catalogue for consumers.
To prepare for these new enhancements, on May 1, 2013, we will be discontinuing the availability of the following tools and capabilities: Intel AppUp® SDK, the Intel AppUp® encapsulator, components submission and Window*s Index Experience (WEI) score requirements. The following is a brief summary that explains how this may impact you.
Intel AppUp SDK
The Intel AppUp SDK will no longer be available for download after May 1, 2013. If you currently have the Intel AppUp SDK downloaded, you will still have the ability to submit applications with the SDK after May 1st. The use of the SDK was optional, so apps created without using the SDK can be submitted. Please note that this change will not impact your published applications that were created using the SDK, and your customers will still have access to all of those apps.
Intel AppUp® encapsulator
The Intel AppUp® encapsulator 1.0 and Intel AppUp encapsulator 2.0 Alpha will no longer be available after May 1, 2013. If you have published an application utilizing the Intel AppUp encapsulator, it will continue to function as developed. However, if you need to make any updates to the app, you will need to use a different app container to submit your app, such as the Chromium-based HTML5/C++ hybrid application container. For more information, please visit http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/do-it-yourself-chromium-base-web-application-container. If you want to submit an Adobe AIR* app, follow the steps in this article to obtain an EXE installer for the app http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/adobe-air-applications-to-the-intel-appup-center. Please note that unless you are editing your app, this change will not impact your published applications and your customers will still have access to these apps.
Components
Due to the lack of adoption, the components submission capability will be removed from the Intel Developer Zone submission portal. Consequently, you will no longer have access to this cpability to submit new apps. However, if you have published an app that utilized a component, your app will continue to function as intended.
Windows* Experience Index (WEI)
To further relax our submission requirements and save you time during the app submission process, the requirement to submit the Windows* Experience Index (WEI) values during the app submission process has been removed. Your application will continue to function as intended
We sincerely appreciate your support and regret any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have questions and or need assistance please contact our technical support team http://software.intel.com/en-us/contact.
