Only recently has the west coast of the United States, particularly California, especially southern California received the credit it deserves for the long history of abstract and experimental film work that has gone on here. The Iota Center is a non profit organization that among other things preserves, archives and provides information about [...]

So much is going on in the way of real time interactive software and animations that I find just trying to get a good understanding of all the possibilities inherent in the many programs on the market is daunting. As a freelance 3d artist/visual poet working with different companies, understanding the technology is important to [...]

Wallace Stevens is one of my favorite poets, so I was happy to find that Paul Young curator and owner of the Young Projects Gallery in the Pacific Design Center referenced one of his poems, “The Pediment of Appearance” for one of the 2 shows running concurrently in his gallery, “The Savage Transparence.” Like a good [...]

I have been using a program called Xfrog for more reasons than it has a great name. Many years ago I was told about it by several people, and one of them was Saty Raghavachary, a programmer and educator at DreamWorks Animation. I only regret it has taken me so many years to start using the [...]

This year Caltech hosted the Humanity+ conference. I had been given a press pass to attend, but for a variety of reasons, plus perhaps a bit of stay at home fever on my part I chose to send my avator to the conference instead, no, actually I streamed it instead. I sat transfixed in front [...]

When I went to what seemed like a much smaller Siggraph this year, (but that is another blog) a number of people were talking about the film/entertainment industry here in California and how industry jobs have been leaving for other states and countries for a variety of reasons. At Siggraph I was introduced to Pam [...]

It happened, the C3:Vision Lab 2010 State of the Art Symposium or SOA 2010 that I mentioned at the end of my last blog. I did some volunteer work for it welcoming people to the conference and missed a bit of the opening as a result. It turned out that there were so many volunteers [...]

I would like to take my hat off to a departed friend, Bill Kovacs on this 4th anniversary of his passing. He was one of the first to have the idea to take the same computer graphics tools being used in films, and commercials and make the first off the shelf animation software that could [...]
