Jeffrey Rott (Intel)

Since joining Intel in 2006, I have had many titles and roles, but they all centered around our Software ecosystem. Currently I work on enabling programs for ISVs in the Intel Software Partner Program and also am the Manageability Community Manager on the Intel Software Network. I'm a hands-on DIY fix-it guy, so there's always something taken apart on my workbench.

Without a doubt, one of the most exciting developments in the tech world for 2011 was the introduction of the Ultrabook.  We put a reference design out there and OEMs took it and ran with it.  Most of the models that arrived were slim, sleek, powerful and yet power-efficient.  I brought one of the current [...]

I'm excited to announce that we have a new Power-Efficiency Community!  We organized the content around two areas - Battery Life and Energy Usage.  The former is targeted at mobile platforms where battery life is a crucial component of the user experience and the latter is geared at helping to reduce power consumption of plugged-in devices.   At the beginning of 2010 I had the opportunity to travel to Bangalore, India to meet with several ISVs.  The main purpose of the visit was to gain some insight to help with the development of the Manageability Checker, a tool created to help with AMT development and to test uses cases.   I also [...]

A few weeks back Ajith Illendula wrote a quick little blog about the new SDK 7.0. While Ajith is always a good read, sometimes all those words just seem to blur together. So, for those of you who are a little more visual, we've published a video highlighting all the latest developments in the latest [...]

Making AMT 7.0 a little easier

By Jeffrey Rott (Intel) (22 posts) on March 29, 2011 at 12:50 pm

OK - I'll admit it. Enabling for AMT is probably not the easiest part of your day. It's a pretty tricky technology that requires a bit of persistance. But I can assure you that if you find a spot to integrate AMT into your application, you'll never regret it. It's part of my job to [...]

Recently I had the opportunity to interview one of our community engineers, Dan Zimmerman.  We turned it into an 8-minute video which details AES and the New Instructions(NI) that are part of the Sandy Bridge platform.  Take a look and let us know what you think.  If you have any questions about the material covered, [...]

vPro - Real World

I recently had the pleasure of interacting with Blair Muller, a new community member from Australia. I happened to find Blair when I was trolling through some non-Intel community forums that I was alerted to from my Google alerts.  I tracked him (some might say “stalked”) from a Microsoft forum to an Intel forum and [...]

If you went to or read about the Consumer Electronics Show that happened in Vegas earlier this month, you couldn’t help but be inundated with all the talk about tablets and smartphones.  In fact, it was a tablet that won the coveted Best in Show award.  I’ve got nothing against them and in fact I’m [...]

After spending the University Day of the Management Developers Conference being put into my place, I spent the next three days getting up to speed on some of the latest topics concerning manageability and security. MDC 2010 was organized into 3 tracks each day. Day 1 – Diagnostics, Virtualization and DMTF. Day 2 – SMI-S, Cloud [...]

The first day at the Manageability Developers Conference (www.mandevcon.com) in Santa Clara was University Day. Unlike some other conferences where University Day is a chance for college students to enter at a discounted price near the end of the conference, MDC University Day is the opening day of the conference and is all about giving [...]

Just when I thought it was safe to unpack my suitcase, I’m once again hitting the road.  Next week (Nover15-18) I’ll be traveling to Santa Clara to participate in the Manageability Developers Conference.  Intel has a handful of presenters that will be hosting breakout sessions on various topics surrounding manageability and security in cloud computing.  [...]

Want a good laugh? Then check out the Intel Science and Engineering Fair spots from the Tonight Show at www.tonightshowwithconanobrien.com/intel. It’s fun to see Intel let its hair down and laugh at itself a little. The clips with Conan interacting with the kids in the Science Fair are priceless. I especially enjoyed the battle and [...]

Virtual Insanity?

As we’re gearing up for Engage 2009, a virtual event for the Intel Software partner Program, I’m wondering what the general consensus is around virtual events. The economic crisis is obviously having an effect on travel and event attendance, but can a face-to-face event be replaced by hundreds or thousands of people sitting in front [...]

You've got something on your Face.....book

Is it just me or does it seem like Facebook is starting to explode?  In the last several months I've connected to numerous old school friends, been tagged in photos that I wish didn't exist, received "friend requests" from people I don't know, and even received a "sea garden request" (what the heck is a [...]

Intel recently announced its Intel® Remote Wake Technology, highlighting the first software and services companies that are along for the ride (Cyberlink, JAJAH, Orb and Pando).  At first glance it may not appear to be that big of a deal, but take the time to take a deeper look.  This is pretty cool stuff!  I [...]

Making the Software Connection. eHarmony?

One of the things that I constantly ask myself is, "What do ISVs want from Intel?". The next question that follows is, "What is Intel able to provide to ISVs?". Just to clear things up, answers to the first question such as; big bags of money, extravagant vacations, unlimited supply of test systems and $2.00/gallon [...]
