Game Demo Description

Aphelion: Phoenix Rising is a 4X(eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) turn based strategy based on a distant future where six distinct alien factions are pitted in a desperate battle for control of the galaxy. Whatever race you choose, it will be up to YOU to steer them to the path of ultimate victory, or complete annihilation. You are in charge of your faction and command every aspect of their eventual rise to galactic domination. Choose from six unique empires, complete with distinct technologies, ships, units, strengths, and weaknesses. Determine the course of research, create legendary fleets, command great armies, forge powerful alliances, and direct stealthy assassins. These, and many more, are a few of the ways in which you control your faction in its bid for galactic domination.

  • Engaging and complex storyline which unfolds as the game progresses.

  • Dynamic technology trees specific to your race that change every game for greater replayability.

  • Six distinct civilizations, complete with their own look, units, technology, and strategies.

  • Dynamic diplomacy systems, allowing the forging of alliances along with many other forms of treaties such as trade, friendship, war pacts and non-aggression treaties.

  • Engaging espionage system in which you can assassinate, sabotage, spy, and frame your enemy. This system is complete with repercussions in the event of disclosure of deeds.

  • Spectacular turn based 3-D space battles in which the outcome can change in a second due to a reactor going critical, or a boarding party forcing their way to the ship's bridge.

Game Competition Categories:

Best Threaded Game:
Aphelion: Phoenix Rising's thread organization for a single player game is as follows:
1 Main game thread processes user interaction.
5 AI threads that make decisions for the computer players.
1 Server thread that processes all game actions and provides communication between players.
1 Resource management thread.

Increasing the number of processing cores and/or activating hyperthreading will cause significat decreases in the amount of time it takes the AI players to make decisions for a turn.

Best Game Optimized for Intel® Graphics:
Aphelion: Phoenix Rising currently does not use any OpenGL features not supported by Opengl 1.5,
and additions of future features will have the capacity to scale down for GPUs that are unable to handle the load of those features at a reasonable framerate. Aphelion: Phoenix Rising should have no problem running on the Intel G43/G45 Express Chipsets or their mobile counterparts.

Wow, this sounds complex. Do you play against AI? Is hotseat-mode supported?
This reminds me of one of my favorite games, Battle Isle 2220.

You can play against AIs at various levels of difficulty and/or against other players. Hotseat-mode is not supported.

Thank you for you interest.

Well I'm more interested in single player mode, so hopefully the AI will be somewhat challenging and bring back that Master of Orion charms.

We plan on having a fairly competent AI for the players that like to play alone, yet be challenged. Our game is influenced greatly by the Masters of Orion series as well as Birth of the Federation and Galactic Civilizations.

Too right it doesnt, i've scoured the internet for the past few years trying to find something like the old MoO II and Stars!. The genre is my favourite yet is never bothered with much, the gap between rts and turn based needs bridging or better still if rts went stale the turn based games would become popular again. Fingers crossed, fantastic work and goodluck with Aphelion.
