    file format and sample data files
    Do data.txt and keysearch.txt end with an empty line?
    Does each line in these files end with 'n'?

    Some sample data files are appreciated.

    No, the data files will not have a blank line at the end.  The EOF mark will denote the end of the file.

    Whatever a text file editor (e.g., NotePad in Windows and vi in Linux)  or a program to generate such files will put at the end of the lines will be there.  I guess that would be 'n'.
