    export from maya x64/custom export

    hi,

i am using the 64 bit version of maya in my pipeline.

    1. will there be a x64 version of the export plugins available?
    2. if not, in the case of writting a custom exporter that writes out the bare necesities for rigid bodies, would i need to output something else than the vertex postion?

    thank you,

    Paul

    hi spooky_paul,

#1 AFAIK this is not currently in the plans.  I'll try and verify this and get back to you.

#2 There's a lot of information about this in the Docs.  It can be rather daunting, as can making your own rigid body exporter from scratch.  But it's doable.  You'll want to look at "Havok Content Tools/Common Concepts" especially at ".../Physics: Rigid Body Concepts" and ".../Physics: Constraints Concepts".  This will tell you what Havok grabs from the Modeler.

There's more to the content tools than just an exporter.  It adds views and properties that can be edited in the modeler, a myriad of export options centered around the various Havok products, etc.  So gathering all the info that the docs refer to is probably out side the scope you want.

Of course, you can grab as little or as much as you want from the modeller, write it to your own kind of file, and load that and create the runtime assets. It may be a can of worms though.

In any case, Physics: Rigid Body Concepts enumerate important attributes of rigid bodies that will need to be set at some point.

Thank you for pointing that out.

I am thinking about making a basic export script, that gives me enough data to build hulls for the model in case in a custom editor. In the same editor i will try to set the rigid body options.

I am only focusing at rigid bodies atm.
