Expand Description Collapse DescriptionThis 20min self chat is about a unique approach to Web Page localization that allows centralization of localized text to be delivered via JavaScript making use of jQuery for DOM parsing and JSON as the shared data format. The unique thing about this concept is that is works in any text/htm type page so it is portable to other environents (can also be consumed by PHP, JSP, ASP, HTM files etc.)
ASP.Net provides the housing for the Localized text in this case and delivers the JSON data back to the web page. ASP.Net rendered client code provides a natural way to localize controls with little to no effort. I also show some other ways of extending on this idea.
It would not be very hard to work something like this out in more complex ASP.Net Web Pages as well. I came across this article that conveys some thoughts close to my own "ASP.Net, ClientIDs and their JavaScript companion" by James Gregory
In the video I make mention of ownersip of Rewrite.Net but that is not correct - Proper resources and credits noted below.
Supplemental items:
- Rewrite.Net found the code for this on 15Seconds.com
- jQuery - JavaScript Library
