Michael Wrinn, Course Architect with Intel Software College, discusses his white paper "Is the free lunch really over? Scalability in Many-core Systems: Part 1 in a Series."
He touches upon popularly understood challenges to scalability, particularly that described by Gene Amdahl's famous equation which describe how the serial components of parallel code can limit scalability. Michael points out that there is hope beyond Amdahl. He discusses different means for understanding and achieving scalability, particularly through the work of John Gustafson. Michael discusses Part Two of his series in which he will describe how smart data locking strategies can improve performance and scalability. Michael, we are waiting.
