New article: A Data-parallel Virtual Machine

I'm one of the people who recently joined Intel from RapidMind. Together with the rest of the formerly-RapidMind team I am working on a product based on Ct Technology and our RapidMind development platform. It's been an exciting three months so far, and we already feel very much at home at Intel. If you'd like to hear more about Ct Technology and RapidMind, have a look at this recently posted video from Parallel Programming Talk where you can hear Anwar Ghuloum, Michael McCool, and myself discuss the topic.

One of the first things we have been working on since joining forces is a virtual machine to expose all the great data-parallel features from Ct Technology and RapidMind's products to a wide range of programming languages and domain-specific languages. At SC09 last week, we announced this effort at our Ct Technology birds-of-a-feather session, and it was met with a great deal of interest and excitement.

For those of you who were unable to attend the session at SC09, I wrote up a new article describing the virtual machine. Have a look, especially if you have an interest in seeing good support for data-parallelism in your favorite programming language!

I will be posting more in the future about our efforts to converge Ct Technology and RapidMind, as well as other topics of interest. If you'd like to see what I'm up to on a more regular basis, you might be interested in following my Twitter feed (@sdt_intel).
