I ran the performance team on a large Ada project (>1million lines) on DEC Alphas for several years. Did all sorts of interesting work on building performance tools, improving compilers and getting code to run faster on multi-CPU boxes. The DEC Alpha was an advanced RISC chip with multiple instruction pipelines. Now using these skills to improve the performance of genomics code on multi-core, multi-CPU Intel boxes.
