Exclusive use of the MTL

It has been highlighted that folks need to test their contest submissions using exclusive use of the MTL. This is fully available on Linux.

Users are strongly encouraged to use the batch system available on the MTL under Linux, by making use of the command "Qsub" - This command will schedule your job to run on an exclusive batch node. Please see the Getting Started Guide for more information, that is includedwith all account notifications.

If you prefer to not use the batch systems but to run your jobs on the login node (acano01), we have a re-nicer running that will automaticallyreduce the priority of your job, as it consumes CPU time.

Note: The re-nicer was put in place to minimize the impact of high CPUjobs on other general users.

I just want to clarify the sentence in Mike Pearce's post above that is bold. Mike is discussing the use of the Manycore Testing Lab (MTL)to test solution code under "exclusive use". He does not mean that the use of the MTL is mandatory for the competition. Using the MTL is purely optional, but the judges will be using the MTL to test thecode entries that are submitted. So, if you use the MTL to test your code on, you will see what the judges will see. You may find that helpful to your coding.
