New File Uploader for Application and Component Submission

New File Uploader for Application and Component Submission

Portrait de manuel-acevedo (Intel)

Within the existing application and component submission process, w e are replacing the current Java file uploader with Plupload http://www.plupload.com/). This new uploader will allow us to:

  • Improve the performance and robustness of the existing upload process
  • Provide a uniform and improved user experience
  • Utilize a design that is more elegant and consistent with the look and feel of on the site
  • Make use of a highly flexible open source API that leverages robust browser based technology

In order to use the new file uploader, developers will need to either have MS Silverlight or the Google Gears plugins installed. See the table below for specific browser requirements.

BrowserMS SilverlightGoogle GearsChromeXFirefox 4XFirefox 3.6XXIE 8XXMAC BrowsersSafariXChromeX

It is highly recommended that you install the plugins prior to beginning any submission process. If you have already begun a submission process, save your application or component first. Links to the plugins are available on the right sidebar, under the resources section. You can also access them from these links:

To download the MS Silverlight:http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight

To download Google Gears:http://gears.google.com/

If you do not have one of the required plugins installed, you will get a message from within the application & component submission process with a download link.

The new file uploader will not affect any development technologies that you are presently using.
The new file uploader will not affect the current process for:

  • Developing an App
  • Packaging an App
  • Submitting an App
  • Managing an app

The new file uploader will be implemented within the following URLs for application & component submission under your dashboard:

Hi willeysher:
please read this I m Begginer for Developing

This approach is not appropriate for people using Linux for development. Not appropriate for MeeGo development.

For example, in order to upload my Linux-developed application for Linux (aka MeeGo), I needed to run Windows XP under Qemu in order to use silverlight.

Nothing else worked, and it was a very frustrating experience. Google gears is not available on any modern linux browsers and will soon no longer be supported. Silverlight is MS-only.

Therefore, please setup a generic and standards-compliant HTML-based uploader. Or if you must, a generic java application, since at least Java is available and supported multiplatform.

My OS Debian/GNU/Linux and Meego/GNU/Linux do not provide packages for *light , what dont you provide a native html/http upload this is insane
I am waiting for half a year to upload my package ... I'll try again some day if it worth it ...

Or unless some from intel can upload this file to my rzr_online_fr account :

http://repo.pub.meego.com/home:/rzr/meego_current_Core/i586/pinball-0.0.0-6.1.i586.rpm

For now I give up

I completely agree with that comment.

By the way, Moonlight doesn't work as a replacement of Silverlight : it's not even a matter of Debian/MeeGo not providing it. There is NO WAY to make that work from Linux !!!

The HTML5 FileAPI should be considered as a replacement for all these deprecated and evil (hardly portable, ...) technologies that are Google Gears and Silverlight, if you really want to use "trendy" technologies instead of the good old plain HTTP file upload.

Best Regards.

Just noticed that there was actually a thread about this component, a part of the site which has been bothering me for a while. I don't understand why you can't settle on something a little more standard? HTML5 would be best of course but even Flash would be better. I currently have Silverlight installed solely for the purpose of being able to upload my applications on AppUp. Which honestly feels rather silly.
