Performing Remote Configuration with Java

In my last Java blog I demonstrated how one could perform Host-based configuration of AMT with Java. Now I’m going talk about how to perform Remote Configuration. The differences between Host-based and remote configuration lies primarily on were the configuration code runs and the security requirements to execute the code. With the Host based method, our requirements were that we needed to run with admin privileges on the AMT client itself.

Using PowerShell Drives to Manage Intel AMT

One feature of Windows PowerShell is that it gives you the ability treat various data stores as if they were file systems. An advantage of this approach is that you can use a relatively small set of built-in commands to manage your data stores. This is because only thing that changes from data store to data store is the path to individual items, while the commands to operate on the data remain the essentially the same. Another advantage is that you can start at root of the data store and navigate or explore the contents just like you would a file system.

It’s time to migrate to the Intel AMT SCS 7.0

As you probably have noticed, there are great posts about the Intel AMT SCS 7.0 (check this or this for example). This post is not about all new features, it’s just a look to the previous 5.X version to see the benefits of migrating.  The 7.0 version has been available for some time, but there are always environments where AMT systems (and AMT infrastructure) aren’t changed frequently.

You've read about it - now see and hear about it - AMT SDK 7.0

A few weeks back Ajith Illendula wrote a quick little blog about the new SDK 7.0. While Ajith is always a good read, sometimes all those words just seem to blur together. So, for those of you who are a little more visual, we've published a video highlighting all the latest developments in the latest release. Joey Edelstein, Senior Technical Information Engineer, takes to the screen with his depiction of what's new with SDK 7.0. Take a look:

    AMT

AMT is a management technology from Intel. It's embedded in the motherboard (if your laptop or desktop is "VPro") and accessible from the network with a simple and standard web interface.

With AMT (and after configuration at the BIOS level), you can boot your desktop remotely with a simple web service "SOAP" call. And many more ... check www.intel.com/technology/platform-technology/intel-amt for more information and use cases.

  • Integrating Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) by taking advantage of the Windows PowerShell Module for Intel® vPro™

Starting with the Intel® AMT SDK version 7.0 and higher, it’s becoming much easier to access Intel® AMT Technology using Windows PowerShell. PowerShell, as you have probably heard, is Microsoft’s task automation framework for Windows and provides a scripting language built on top of the .NET framework. Intel now provides a PowerShell Module for Intel® AMT. A PowerShell Module is a package of reusable commands and features that expose their functionality as if they were directly built into PowerShell.

Management Developers Conference - Day 1

The first day at the Manageability Developers Conference (www.mandevcon.com) in Santa Clara was University Day. Unlike some other conferences where University Day is a chance for college students to enter at a discounted price near the end of the conference, MDC University Day is the opening day of the conference and is all about giving attendees a head start to the rest of the conference. There were two tracks to be followed: Introductory and Advanced.

    It's Alive!
