MID

At SXSW playing with MIDs - track me down!

I'm really tired of explaining to people what a MID is. All day long I interact with people at Intel and online who know (at least in general) what MIDs are, how they can be used, and where they fit in the Grand Gadget Hierarchy.

But when I speak with friends and professionals outside of the Intel developer/enthusiast loop, I have to explain in broad terms. Usually the discussion ends with them cheerily saying "Oh, like an iPhone!" (sigh)

How to Determine the Scope of a Software Mobilization Project

Challenge

Establish the scope of the effort to create a mobilized version of an existing application. A number of capabilities are required to support an environment in which computing devices are mobile. Some of these capabilities are specific to an environment designed for mobility, while others may already be built into the application (though they may require modification for use in a mobilized context).

  • graphics
  • Mobilité
  • Linux Libraries Lost and Found

Developing an application to run on Linux systems is, for the most part, fun and rewarding.  I always enjoy using new tools and seeing how much I can get the tool to do for me.   But after the construction is complete, you need to test it on the intended target devices.  I’ve been developing an application to run on MID devices.  There are several operating systems being used for MID devices, but the current favorite seems to be MIDinux.  It is not based on Ubuntu Linux, which is what I’ve been developing on.

How to Add Mobility Requirements to the Software Development Life Cycle

    Challenge

Identify business requirements that are specific to a mobilized application architecture. An architecture designed for mobile applications incorporates the use of portable computing devices and wireless networks into a computing environment in which a user must be able to keep working productively, regardless of the status of the network connection.

The needs analysis of the solution architecture for a mobilized application must accommodate the following aspects of the mobile computing environment:

  • Développeurs Intel AppUp®
  • Energy Efficient
  • MID
  • Mobilité
  • MIDs getting a real workout on MID Moves

If you're a developer on mobile internet devices (MIDs), or just a fan, you should check out the MID Moves site that launches this week. I love this site not just because they're playing around with some great new systems straight from CES that I haven't even seen yet, but because... well... it isn't Intel.
